| | | Re: New Card-shaped B permit (Non-EU) takes so long! | Quote: | | | | | As I moved to a new flat, I also got my B permit changed to ID card shaped permit. The officials told me it would take 2 weeks. But end of the first week, I told them I need the permit for travelling. Then they called someone in somewhere else, two days later, I got my new permit. It only took 7 working days.
I think maybe smiling at the young lady in the 'wohnung kontrol' office helps. | | | | |
WOW, i guess you live in Schaffhausen, right?
then it is merely a Cantonal issue.
If basel takes a month and Schf takes 2 weeks....
I heard tax assessments are also slow in Zurich....I dont know when I will get my 2008 taxes back. |

They give it to you "same day". The only issue is that it will cost CHF 100 per person and will be valid for 2 months or so. That sucks if you have to pay for a whole family though. | | | | | There is no issue with travel if you have a EU, US, Canada, NZ, etc passport. You dont need a visa to enter the country and the worst thing anyone can say is ask if you live here and if you have your card. If you say no, they might if suspicious look you up on the computer (at the airport) or make a phone call if on the train to verify that you live here. Its slightly slower than just fashing your permit, but it works fine if you're legal.

For many with non-EU passports, the ausweis is the 'passport' out of Swiss... | | | | | I travel often. When I come in through the airport I even get asked the "how long will you stay" question. When I reply that I live here, they just give me my passport back; I've never been asked for the ausweis. I have a US passport, so that may be why.

I am still waiting for it to arrive, have paid them twice for the temporary visas its been 3 months now.. really frustrating to have it for 8 months or less after paying twice addtionally . I guess the waiting time varies from canton to canton.

Can I confirm that the swiss B permit for both EU and non-EU citizens is a seperate document from the passport or is it within the passport like a visa stamp?

Mine (B permit/ID in new credit card format) took 2.5 months, it was a first issue not a renewal.

Can anyone give me any advice on how long it took to get their B-permit issued in Canton Luzern?
I've been searching through many, many threads but can't find any specifics. Thanks!

I'm in Basel Stadt and there are a wide range of waiting periods among my friends. My husband and I got ours in about 2 weeks but I have a friend who waited months.
She was actually detained in the Zurich Flughafen. She took her under-aged daughter to the plane for an international flight and then the passport control wouldn't let her out of the International area because her Ausweis was expired. She even had all of the papers from Basel and the phone number of the person handling her case. Finally they let her out, but the rest of us took the potential for a delay very seriously after that.
If you experience a delay in you paper processing and you have to pay for additional credentials because of the government's delay, it would seem that there should be some way to file a request for reimbursement. There seems to be a form for everything here.

thing in CH, specially if you are a non-EU B holder!! However, it must be
interesting for an Press Reporter to investigate the causes for such delays or
"bottle-necks" kanton-wise and help us. This kind of beuracratic delays is
something akin to the Eastern world Offices.

Good Idea! I just wrote an email to the magazine "Swiss News" asking if they have looked into the problem and can point me in the direction of the answer. Let's see if they respond!

| | | Re: New Card-shaped B permit (Non-EU) takes so long! | Quote: | | | | | But before I came here, I lived as an foreigner in the Netherlands: It was completely common for a 12 months permit to take ten months! When I kindly asked if it makes sense, the lady at the city hall, mildly smiling, answered: You know, last month I had someone here who got it after eleven and a half months... that is normal. You can always come here and get a temporary stamp in your passport showing you are legally here... after a couple of years my wifes passport was entirely filled with Dutch stickers just because they could not make the permits within a few months... | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | I just got my B permit yesterday (26 June) after a 3 month 24 day wait!!!

We lived in Holland (the Hague to be exact) for 6 months before my husband was told to come here. My Dutch residency card came on the day I left that country for Switzerland
Irony irony.
My Swiss permit came in 2-3 months. For that, I am thankful.

This is the answer from "Swiss News": Dear Cara, Thanks for your email. I only recently heard about this situation (because my permit is not up for renewal for awhile ... thank goodness, it sounds like!), so we have not covered it in an article yet. ... Unfortunately, I don't have any extra information, however, you could try contacting the Migrationsamt in Basel. Hopefully someone there will be able to clarify the situation. Sorry we can't be of more help, and good luck! Best,
Kati
Nice of her to get back to me anyway.
