Hi Swissbob,

Infact they had already recieved the UK visa for 6 months, and then they applied for the Schengen visa. Its a pity that the embassy even ignored the request clearly made on the application form

Since they travel on the 30th of Nov, I was wondering if I can apply for multiple-entry either here or in UK.

Could not find any relevant information in the Embassy website, and they dont seem to respond to any calls after 12pm.
The UK is not party to the Schengen acquis, so why would one
expect the UK to issue (or be able to issue) a "Schengen visa"?
.

It wouldn't be the UK issuing a visa would it? It would be the embassy of the target country.

Start of speaking with Controle des habitants in your commune, they have good contacts with the immigration services and also maybe willing to assist you, supply a nice letter, put you in direct contact with somebody, those sort of things that always help.

Re: [Q&A] Schengen Visa - all you need to know

I scanned through the thread but I am still not clear:

I am a non EU national and my entry visa states SUISSE PLUS 1 SCHENGEN TRANSIT.

So my question is, once I get my residence permit in a few days, can I use that to enter other Schengen states or do I still a new Schengen visa?

If you have a valid permit application that is approved and in the process of being delivered you can go to the cantonal office and ask them to issue you with a multiple-entry visa that will allow you to travel all over Europe until your permit arrives. It costs 90CHF.

Ask for "Ausflugschein" from your Ausländeramt. This is valid for Austria and it costs CHF 40. I am not sure about france... Better ask the Stadthaus oder Ausländeramt of your Kanton/ Gemeinde..

Schengen- what happens when tourist leaves at 4 months

My partner came over as a tourist and we have been getting the run around for how to extend the stay to four months. No need to provide input I have had everyone working on it. It is still in process.

We are leaving at the end of Sept (which will be 4 months) and was wondering what happens at the airport when we try to leave if we do not have the legal permission by the end of Sept. Anyone have any experience in this.

Best case a telling off. Worst case you get a ban on returning for a defined period - and that ban would extend to the entire Schengen region.

Re: [Q&A] Schengen Visa - all you need to know

Hello,

So I was perusing this thread for information for traveling to other countries.

I am a US Citizen, and have an L-Permit here in Switzerland. I have a valid US Passport. I wish to go to Italy for a weekend next month, and plan to do more trips to other countries as well.

The whole Schengen Visa thing confuses me But it would seem like I do not need to get one, and my US Passport should be enough, but I really am not sure.

Does anyone know the answer for sure? I will also see if I can find the info online somewhere, or call someone But Just wanted to ask here also.

Thanks!

You don't need one.

Re: [Q&A] Schengen Visa - all you need to know

I have a new job near Zurich and the company sponsored or at least arranged for the permit. It is a 12 month short stay but when I got my passport back the visa inside is only good for two months... anyone know if there is a reason? If work needs me to be in country longer can it be extended? thanks

I applied for a 6 month student visa and received a visa in my passport for only 3 months. I was told that the residence permit is what allows you to stay longer. Try the cantonal office?

A visa is for entry purposes i.e you have a fixed time period in which to enter Switzerland once the visa is issued. Some visas are for a single entry and others allow multiple entries. If you do not enter within this time then you will be refused entry.

As you enter Switzerland the visa is stamped (normally), and you can then present yourself at the local town hall. There, you will be issued with a residence permit. The visa is no longer required once you get a residence permit.

Who counts as "family"?

Does a *-in-law count as family for the purposes of a Schengen Visa Application?

Re: [Q&A] Schengen Visa - all you need to know

Just to update the Schengen Agreement Zone maps for a easier overview:

Switzerland is part of the so-called Schengen zone: only one visa is required within the whole "Schengen zone" (dark green). Please contact your Swiss consulates or embassy in your home country to apply for a Schengen visa.

The actual visa requirements are shown on the map below.

  • red: Visa required to enter the Schengen area
  • brown: Visa required to enter Schengen area and for transit through Schengen area
  • green: Visa-free access to the Schengen area for 90 days
