Criminal record extract

Status : Applied for a B-permit in Kanton Zurich

Got a mail from the migrationsamt stating that they require the document stated in the title. Google translates it as "native criminal record".

Does anyone know what I need to provide? A document from the police from my last country of residence? Or a document from my original country?

Why is this needed anyways? Can't I just state this myself and shouldn't that suffice?

Re: Heimat lichen Strafregister Auszugs

Just go to your local consulate and ask for it there. They are used to producing this.

The Authorities need to check if you have a criminal record or not. Yes you can make a notary here. Notary says that you do not have a criminal record but that would not suffiice. You need to produce staffregsiterauszug to get your B permit, notary would just allow to buy additonal time until you procure this document from your native. In some countries, it is called as PCC , Police clearance certificate. ¨

There are 2 alternatives either to get it from your local embassy or contact the local police of the area where you stayed in your native country. Which option to choose depends on your contacts, if you know some one in local police or have some one who can apply on your behalf and get this document from the police, the process will be faster. if you dont know who can do this for you, approach the embassy of your country.

Pls take this extremely seriously as untill your provide this document or notary at the least, you cannot demand any rentry visas from the Migrationsamt, in case you need to visit your native country.

Re: Criminal record extract

Some countries (U.S.) may not provide criminal records to be used in this way. A sworn affidavit from your embassy may get accepted.

Re: Criminal record extract

Did you end up providing this criminal record document? I ask, as i have a friend from the US who is trying to get his permit, and has not been able to get this single document yet. He has submitted everything else.

Re: Criminal record extract

I recently applied for a Subject Access report from the Police National Computer in the UK as a job I was doing required security clearance. After the obligatory 40 days wait, I was horrified when it came back with a list of convictions against my name.

I immediately emailed the address on the letter to ask how I could prove my innocence as I have definitely had no convictions as far as I was aware.

They wrote back "Thank you for your email. We have sent you all the information about you as shown on the Police National Computer. With regards to your query you will have to go back to the police station to rectify this problem, because they own the record they will be able to help you in this matter."

Hmm, I wrote back thanking them for stating the obvious, that I knew they had sent me the information as I had just read it and it was incorrect. I also asked which police station I should go to as I cannot go back to one I had never been to in the first place!

I then wrote a very strong letter threatening lawyers if I lost the job because of this inaccurate data and within 2 days a clean, clear replacement had dropped through my letterbox... The first took 40 days, the 2nd took less than 48 hours.

Now I am not blaming the boys in blue but it is seriously worrying to think I had a clean CRB check done in 2004 with the string of convictions I had against me.

Just wondering how the other me, who lives somewhere near Halesowen in the midlands feels now she has her clean slate dumped with her true criminal history?

So any of you requiring police checks, I hope you get the right informations!

Re: Criminal record extract

Fduval....

I am from the US and was able to obtain this document through an agency that does background checks. The agency must be certified to do such background checks in order for it to be valid. Have your friend contact their local school district and ask who does their background checks. They can even contact the local Swiss Embassy to see if they have a list of agencies that do the required background checks. This is what I had to do and, I found a list of certified agencies in my area. It took about 1 week to get the document. Your friend must tell them that it's for a visa requirement. If there is no criminal record then you don't have to worry about the translation part. If there is a criminal record, you have to have it translated into German by a government certified translator.

On a related note, but not entirely on-topic, I was unpleasantly surprised, while trying to buy my first house, to discover that the reason my mortgage approval was taking so long to come through was that I had a problem with my credit rating.

I contacted the agency involved, and demanded to know what was going on, since I had no unpaid debts, and had had a clear financial record up until then.

It turns out that somebody who had lived in a flat which I'd left a few years earlier had a bad credit rating, and because we shared an address, I got tarred with the same brush!

Bizarre, and very annoying.

It didn't cost a lot of money to get it sorted out (about £20, if I recall correctly), but it cost a lot of bother in phone calls, letters and hair-pulling.

If the rules are as weird as this for credit ratings, who knows what byzantine machinations take place behind the doors of the Criminal Records Bureau...
