Australian Girlfriend - UK B Permit holder

Hi, Does anyone have any advice on the best way to gain temporary residency (as a minimum) or part time work for my Australian girlfriend, it seems pretty difficult to stay in Switzerland as a non-Eu citizen unless you are married - I am from the UK and have a B permit.

Is it possible to get an L permit or some sort of study visa to start learning French?? Any help would be much appreciated as this looks pretty complicated.

Many Thanks, Jules

Hi

As you are not married there is probably little chance of your permit assisting her entrance.

She could enrol for a university degree and get permit to study that way. To learn a language using a permit it would have to be a university degree level as far as I am aware.

Is there really no "de facto" kind of status here? I had two English friends went to Sydney. He aquired a visa based on the job he was there for, and she got hers as his de facto partner.

In Australia we have de facto laws which are essentially the same laws as marriage, if you have been together long enough.

It is a bit of a shame, I've just spent 3 weeks over there and is was great.

As for recognising De Facto, the Swissies don't for some reason.........
