Question from a Swiss/US citizen

Hello all!

I am a dual US/Swiss citizen looking to move to Zurich in January. I know I will not need a work permit, due to my citizenship, but do I need a residence permit? Somewhere I thought I had read that even Swiss citizens moving to different cities or cantons need to register or get a permit or something. Am I completely mistaken? Do I just saunter in a grab an apartment (which, I realize will be a whole different headache)?

Re: Question from a Swiss/US citizen

As a Swiss citizen, you're entitled to live wherever you'd like in the country. All you have to do is register, the norm for everyone here - citizen or not.

Re: Question from a Swiss/US citizen

Thanks, evilshell!

Would I just go to City Hall upon arrival or is there another specific bureau for that?

Re: Question from a Swiss/US citizen

The City Hall equivalent should be able to help you, probably a department called the "Bevolkerungsamt".

Re: Question from a Swiss/US citizen

Here's the link for the relevant dept. Depending on the district you'll go to the relevant Kreisbüro once you have an address.
