Work permit question

Hi All,

I've received my work permit card from the office of migration -
on the card I see the following words: Kurzaufenthaltsbewilligung (L)
The permit was granted for 12 months.

By the definitions I found in some threads here -
Kurzaufenthaltsbewilligung stands for a B permit. Then why the (L) on the card?

I know that my company applied for a B permit for me, so, this does not make any sense - perhaps the (L) stands for something else?

Could someone please shed some light on this for me?

Thank you for your help.

Cheers,
Kevin

Re: Work permit question

At this time of year they do give out L permits as they tend to be over the B permit quotas.
Go in and talk to them.

They will provide you with information on what you can do and where to go for it. That's all they will do. Don't expect that by talking you will get an exception.

Re: Work permit question

As far as I know initially it will be L permit for first 2 years. Then the Stadt zurich will automatically give the B permit based on the availability of quota for that year.

Wouldn't it be Basel and not Zurich?

Thanks.

Re: Work permit question

Yeah, that's what I thought, but if you look in the main sticky thread in this forum, the B permit tied to a company is called: Kurzaufenthaltsbewilligung

Hence, my concern....

L permits would also be called the same.

I wouldn't be concerned. You have a permit so you are now 'legal', L or B doesn't matter.

You didn't mention though your position. Are you here with a permanent, internal 'never ending' position or on a fixed term contract? Makes a big difference when getting permits.
I did 2 years on L permits before receiving a B permit, but I'm on fixed term contracts.
My partner, internal position, got a B permit from day 1.

Re: Work permit question

Yeah, I'm a Financial Project Manager, but hired for a particular project, which may become more, so, that would explain the L.

Thank you.

In a way it does, because L and short B's don't have access to unemployment and cannot change jobs...
