My husband and I were approved the first week in June. We just received our final letter which at the bottom says: zustimmung: B 1 jahre So we're a bit confused. Not sure if it's a B Permit or L Permit, but either way, it doesn't matter. We have been approved and our visa applications are submitted, so we should be all set for our August 1 arrival date.

How long ago did you apply? We waited 8 weeks from application in Zurich to approval in Bern.

Re: B Permit - "The waiting is the hardest part"

We got ours the beginning of this month, it was six weeks from when they were submitted to approved. I should have listened more to people on this site though, I did research on EF and someone said you also have to be applying at the same time with the Swiss embassy in your home country but my husbands company said we did not they took care of everything here, so of course when ours were approved we then had to go apply in our own country as well, which took a couple of days - even expedited. Good luck! It is unsettling.

Re: B Permit - "The waiting is the hardest part"

We received our notification that our permits were approved from the FOM 2 weeks ago - 9 months after the original permit application was submitted. That's after 4 months of waiting for a refusal, 30 days to make an appeal, and another 4 months to get the final decision. Picked up visas at the SF Swiss consulate a week after the decision was granted, and returned to CH Tuesday. Checked in at the Commune on Wednesday, they said 2 more weeks until the actual permits arrive in the mail. All said, 10 months+.

I will go into greater detail sometime soon, once I have been able to digest the overwhelming relief that this exhausting process is over, but if I can offer any advice, it's to be persistent and patient. I think half of the battle is not to give up, which the entire (non-EU) process is aimed at trying to get you to do.

Re: B Permit - "The waiting is the hardest part"

Dear All,

Thanks all for your reply.

I am a Non EU ( indian) working in zurich for the past last 20 months.
I am in L permit and my visa Expires on October 2010.
As per swiss rule, if you complete 2 year you should apply to get B Permit for Extn.
Many of my Colleagures who applied for L to B conversion has been rejected
due to Quota issue.
Swiss Govt. has declared that they have increased 1000 more quota from 1st of July to till this year end.
I am not sure whether they will really consider cases or only they will give it to Big companies like Google, IBM .....

Thanks to all for your help.

Are you employed by the company you work for or are you employed by a third party? I hear on the grapevine it is one of the criteria taken into account and it sort of makes sense.

Whatever, being in ZH you will still be competing with many more applicants than there are new quota. All your company can do is apply and hope.
