Extension for 4 months permit

I would like to know if 4 months workpermit can be renewed? if so what is the process (how much period before expiration it can be applied, how much time it will take, does it undergo quota, to what duration it can be extended, how many times it can be extended)

Also, i would like to know if 4 months workpermit can be converted to 1 yr (long-term L) permit. if so what is the process (how much period before expiration it can be converted, how much time it will take, does it undergo quota)

does the same rule apply for D120 permit for extension or conversion?

TIA

Re: Extension for 4 months permit

If your Work Permit is 'L' ( for 4 months) , it can be prolonged to another 8 months or even 12 months. This will be decided my the immigration. Normally L permits will be for 2 years ( Every one year to be renewed) and then B-Permit can be applied. All the permits are based on Quata as for as I know.

Technically not. The 4 month permit is not subject to quota and cannot be renewed (without a gap outside CH) or 'converted'.

The employer can, of course, apply for a normal L permit which is subject to quota.

I am not sure if this is actually true. As I know of many people here who came on 4 month L (just visa and not card) and got it extended for 8 months. I don't know if it is counted as extension of current 4 month or new permit. Whatever the case is, they did not have to leave the country when they did this.

You answered your own scepticism there .

According to the rules a second concurrent 4 month permit is not allowed without a 2 month absence. The employer can, of course, apply meanwhile for a normal L permit subject to quota. No wait, didn't I already say that?

This was not that clear in your earlier post. Thanks for clarifying anyway.

Re: Extension for 4 months permit

I have a question regarding the 2 month absence? Does it mean that you have to be physically out of Switzerland, or just not work in Switzerland?
I have a 4 month L-permit, and I would like to know whether I can take a job at an international organization immediately after the L-permit expires?

thanks!
