I have a very specific case, i am in switzerland working for last 6.5 years, my C permit is due in 2013. I am currently living in Canton Vaud and was working in Canton Vaud till last 2 months.

Now i have changed my job to Geneva, i have got the clarification from both Canton Vaud as well as from Canton Geneva that with B permit you can work across Switzerland.

Geneva Canton confirmed that I need to apply for the resident permit approval if i move my residence also to Geneva after de-registering from Canton Vaud.

At the same time the Lady from Canton Vaud told me that She is not sure if the Canton will give again the B Permit or L Permit and even if B permit given it will bear the same date as i have today for the eligibility of C permit application.

This is a real worry for me, as after 2 months of my hard effort to find an apartment in geneva, i have one contract in hand, but because of this conversation, I am confused whether to move to Geneva or not.

If somebody have such experience of movement from one Canton to other on B permit or any official law document or link, please share. It would be of great help.

You get the same B permit and it doesn't effect your progress towards a C permit.

Change of canton does effect your C permit. If you change your canton then you can get B or L..depends upon the rule + mood of officer and then your counter again is set to 0

Absolute bollocks.

Professional and geographical mobility for B permit holders was introduced in 2008.

To get the C permit, it requires that you spent at least 10 years in Switzerland regardless of which canton you lived in. So moving does not change the date to get C permit.
You can get an earlier permit C after 5 years of residence if you can bring proof of integration (speak french/german, enough money, no problem with police, no criminal record, stable work).
