Extract from record of birth in lieu of UK passport for my child

Hi

I have just moved to Zurich and am applying for a new UK passport for my new baby. I have recived an 'Extract from record of birth' after registering her birth in Switzerland. Will this Extract from record of birth enable me to get a UK passport?

Thank you

Have you tried asking the UK consulate general/embassy in Switzerland ?

The main thing is whether either of the parents are British. The passport application form is pretty self explanatory and you can download it from the embassy web site here.

I applied for a british birth certificate for my son after he was born here and then used that to apply for his passport.

You should check it out online or talk to your embassy or consulate. It depends on the nationality of both parents, whether the parents are married etc. (You may need to have the child registered as British or sign affidavits etc.)

Re: Extract from record of birth in lieu of UK passport for my child

For what it is worth, when we had to change from my children being on my wife's passport to having their own, we discovered we'd lost one of their birth certificates. We applied for a replacement from the UK. The replacement was certified copy of an extract from the register. So I'd imagine you'd be fine. But check with the embassy.

Hi, we have just got a UK passport for our new born. We were told to send the actual birth certificate rather than the record of birth. This birth certificate took over a month to arrive.

The British Embassy website lists the documents you must supply for a first time passport application:

They say they won't accept short form certificates in their FAQs
