How does my husband stay???

I am Swiss (although grew up in another country). My children also are passport holders. My husband is not. We have applied for the passport and are still waiting...

He has been working in Switzerland for the past 3 years and has now resigned from his job with a Swiss company.

He has been offered employment from another company but this company is not Swiss. They are based outside of the country, but he can use Switzerland as a base. We want to stay here.

Will they renew his permit?? Any advice? He can get a letter stating that they will pay him a salary here and he will be employed although not by a Swiss company...

Any ideas and assistance would really be appreciated???

You are Swiss. You have the absolute right of abode. Your husband has the same though his marriage to you.

If by 'passport' you mean your husband has applied for Swiss Nationality you should perhaps check this information. It doesn't look as if any problems will arise from the new situation, but better safe than sorry.

Re: How does my husband stay???

Thank you for the quick replies. Then do I assume that the reason they ask for his employment details every time is a formality?

He is not an EU citizen BTW....

He would still be a tax payer since he is living here and being paid here, just not by a company based here....

The naturalisation thing is ok... application is in but as you know it takes some time so that aint gonna help for now. We have had the interview by the Gemeinde so hopefully someone is looking at it!!!

Yes, it is a formality. I am also married to a Swiss and not an EU citizen. The "fremdenpolizei" will still like to know for whom he will be working for, but it will be a regular formality.

And as said above, if someone is married to a Swiss, he/she has absolute rights to live here.

I didn't mean that this would help your present situation (which doesn't look as if it needs help anyway) but occasionally someone takes a step (like moving from one canton or even one parish to another) which means that their 'lived in the relevant canton/parish' count starts from zero again. The poor innocent 'alien' gets a horrible shock. Again, I don't think this applies in your case as this will be a facilitated naturalisation but for others it is a point worth remembering.

Re: How does my husband stay???

My random thoughts

1) until the application is completed he remains an "alien" - albeit with specific previliges because of his marriage to you - hence he will still have to register/de-register etc.

2) they may be asking about jobs because he has to pay for naturalisation - isn't this linked to your salary, or does this not apply in marriage situations?

Re: How does my husband stay???

Ok so no one told me he had to pay for naturalisation as a percentage of salary... seems strange but I guess it is the rules...

Maybe it will just be about declaring income in which case that is no problem...

Thank you all for the help. I appreciate it!!!!

Re: How does my husband stay???

I am Swiss with dual British nationality. My OH is British and we are now retired and living in Switzerland, after living most of my adult like in UK. He applied for CH nationality about 6 months ago, and now has interview in 2 weeks time. He was told the cost would be CH750.
