Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

Hi All
I would like to know if for the dependent VISA processing one requires an Apostille (takes about 3-4 weeks) or a normal Ministry of External Affairs (like in Gulf countries) stamp and seal that takes 1 week?

Thanks
AS

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

I think the attestation is required from either of the place of husband or wife in India.
Also it takes as you said anywhere from a week to months depending from where its done and how influential you can be

- It depends on where you get the attestation done, i mean in which state.
I know (from my exp) I got the attestation done in a week from Maharashtra, whereas in places like Chennai or Kolkata I heard takes anywhere from weeks to month.
- Also on how influential you can be
Hi Mangi,

Thanks for ur prompt response. I am applying from Chennai and the agent said there are 2 different processes - first being getting an apostille which is like a visa imprint which would be attached on the certificate. Second one is getting MEA seal, which is the usual process for gulf countries (called embassy certification)..we are confused which one to take as the second one takes only 4-5 days

Also from your experience, does the birth certificate need to be attested/apostilled for the dependent visa?

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

I am not sure which one, as I just had a seal from the Maharashtra govt office.

Yes the birth certificate also needs to be legalized.

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

Hi AS,

I am also from Chennai and I recently got married. Actually I didnt submit the wedding certificate with appostille in the Gemeinde but only submitted the German translation of it attested by translator.

But as far as I know it is always good to attest all the documents with Apostille. Usually this process is very tiring and long. First you need to get your wedding certificate attested by our Chennai secretariat (max 3 weeks ) and later you have to send that copy to MEA in New Delhi ( max 3 weeks) .

I would suggest you first ask your local Gemeinde regarding this procedure if they really need the Apostille.

Regards,
Three Hole Underwear

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

Hello all,

Does anybody know who I can contact to attest my documents on behalf of the MEA in Delhi? I need to have my Indian birth certificate attested by the MEA in order to register my marriage in Switzerland.

Many thanks in advance,

Aabh

hi,

On my experience ,it better if u do both.It might be helpful in future
First Attestation from chennai Secretariat will take 4 weeks max. This is more important, here they refer this appositle first(buse its the proper verfication of ur registered marriage)
Second MEA appositle will take 1 day (Am sure it wont take more than 1 day)

I dont think u need the dependent birth certificate to be attested.its not required for dependent visa. Its required only to get ur baby birth certificate.

All the best in getting attestation.

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

Have u registered your marriage in India.....if yes than get the stamps on that same certificate.
1. first of all u have to get it counter signed from DC of the district where u got ur marriage registration certificate.
2. than take it to the secretariat of ur state and get another counter sign and 3. at last take it to patiala house delhi and get the stamp of MEA.
I advise you to refrain from agents and don't give ur original certificate to them they will delay ur matter more. Its better to take ur certificate yourself and get all counter signs yourself.... at the most use the help of notary.....

they were great, reliable, professional and got all the papers stamped for me. good luck!

Re: Marriage Certificate Attestation in India

Hi,
If you want the certificates very quick, then you can go with agencies like:
http://www.apostille.hbcompany.in/
yourmaninIndia

otherwise do it yourself:
The State level atteestaion takes most of the time. Get a cover letter from the place where marriage certificate is issues and submit documents in secretarait: For each state following is the list who will sign the certificate:

http://www.mea.gov.in/mystart.php?id=8801

After that apostile is quite easy and 1 day job. Sumit documents in the morning and get them back in the evening.
