I know the feeling..
I went back to LA 3 weeks ago for a visit and returned with a new furry one. I was only there for 10 days so we had to move fast in preparing all the paperwork, spaying etc.. And, for a 4 month old puppy, she did very well during the flight(11 hrs). Actually, she was so quiet to where I had to keep checking on her to make sure she was still alive! She, also, did not use the bathroom during the entire flight! She urinated only after we had landed, but luckily I had lined her kennel with puppy pads... She, Miso, is of a mixed small terrier breed. She is very smart and energetic, and it has not taken her long to pick-up on the rules of the house(no peeing, pooping, biting, chasing the cats, devouring shoes, etc.. allowed in the house). I got her from an animal rescue group in Los Angeles.
I am thinking of starting a monthly fund raising campaign to benefit these two rescue groups in Los Angeles. I will be asking people to donate 1-3chf per month(more if you are so inclined to do so...) and will send the money monthly to these two rescue groups. If anyone out there on EF is interested in helping, please feel free to contact for more info...
This is Miso!

I really don't understand why they didn't let you fly the dog cargo???
I adopted my puppy in Portugal for more or less the same reasons than you. She was 8 weeks old at the time, and we flew her cargo through TAP, and they didn't bat an eyelid...
She didn't have any problems at all in the plane, and was the star of the animal-care place in Geneva airport when we went to fetch her |

That is great news. This is tough, isn't it- we've been tempted again and again - but just had to think hard and accept it is just not on. How many can you bring in? As AbFab says, what about all the others. I so glad it is working out for this dog- but I truly feel it is best to support charities abroad that spend all their time and energy to educate, and even more importantly to neuter strays. The money spent to bring one dog could easily save 1000s and more.
Hope this lovely dog will be very happy with your parents though.

perhaps so but this one will be happy, and I support shelters already for their good work. I love3 shelters and the care they take of the pups.

Anthony, I'm so glad it has worked out for this little guy. You are an absolute star for making the extra effort.
And thanks and kudos to your folks - sounds like the little guy will have a lovely new home.
---
My 5 Rp:
Rescue requires a big-tent effort. Those whose talents are best suited to policy or big-picture issues can work to affect much needed change at that level, those whose talents are best suited to shelter work can make an invaluable contribution there, those who are able to give financial support can ensure that the good work shelters do continues, those whose talents are best suited to helping an individual animal can make a difference at a very personal level.
doG knows, there is plenty of work needing done; we all can - and should - help in the way we each feel most comfortable.
---
Wishing this little guy all the very best as he starts his new life.
