Re: looking for jogging stroller for dogs in Zurich

I realize it is possibly seen as nosy of me but... is your dog not capable of running him/herself?

I mean, I realize that little dogs have little legs and maybe seem not to run as fast but, well, they need exercise also... perhaps you could pace yourself to the pace of your pet and worry about a workout for yourself at a different time?

The reason I go into this like this is because there are an increasing number of problems with little dogs with health issues due to never getting enough exercise. I don't just mean weight issues (although those are probably increasing as well) but skeletal and muscular problems due to lack of use because they are carried around all the time.

I'm sorry if I'm jumping at this wrong and you have "good reason" to want such a thing... but I also think that you probably will have a hard time finding such things in Switzerland as there are very strong ideas (as there should be) about ensuring pets get proper care and this includes exercise.

I thought this thread was a joke until I did a search for "jogging stroller for dogs"

Perhaps the OPs dog is disabled? If it's really small, couldn't you just put it in a rucksack?

That's why I started off with the question I did. I think that (most) dogs enjoy being out and having a chance to be social, even if they are disabled so a jogging stroller would be great in that case.

So, I'm hoping the OP's dog is healthy... but I'm also hoping the OP's dog STAYS healthy too.

I have to admit,
When I first saw you post this thread I thought exactly the same as everyone else, and like Tom1234 I also considered the possibility that perhaps your dog was disabled and can't run...... then fair enough.

Otherwise, running is perhaps the greatest pleasure you can offer you dog, and they love you much more if you let them excercise.

Re: looking for jogging stroller for dogs in Zurich

I will be among the first to decry the awful trend of treating dogs as fashion accessories - i.e., Paris Hilton handbag dogs; dogs need to be allowed to be dogs, they need the freedom to run, play and enjoy life canine-style. However, there are indeed legitimate instances when a dog needs to be carried or otherwise transported not under his own steam.

Elderly dogs, handicapped dogs need the socialization and mental stimulation that comes with getting out and about - it would be unfair to deny them this in their twilight years. A carrying pack or stroller often adds greatly to the dog's quality of life.

Also, very small dogs are sometimes at risk of being crushed in crowds as they can't be seen - hence a pack for those situations.

For the OP: these threads might be helpful to you:

Pet carrier recommendations

Hiking with my old dog - Need some ideas.

But for all hale and healthy dogs - nothing like a good workout to keep a dog happy and fit.

Actually, the BVet has a campaign running: 'Bewegung, Bitte!'

Re: looking for jogging stroller for dogs in Zurich

It isn't a jogging stroller, but we have a kiddie cart that attaches to the back of a bike. It probably isn't safe for children by today's standards (older model), but our dog (Fiona) loved to ride it in it. She died about a month ago and we aren't getting another dog in Switzerland - I would gladly give it to someone who wants to use it for their dogs - we are in the Zurich region.... let me know

I saw once an elderly lady carrying her chihuahua in children stroller lovingly decorated with frills everywhere and a nice pink cushion for the dog's comfort...

Small Dogs cannot run long distances at all.
Max 20 minutes and they're pooped to the core!!!
