| | | Lost Cat
One of our cats has decided to go walkabout..... He last did this last year at easter time and was gone for about 2 weeks, we finally got a phone call from someone saying is this your cat....
Now we have put up posters all round, but what is the Swiss (Geneva) system with finding dead animals? I know that back in London, if a dead animal was found it was scanned for a chip and also kept (frozen) for a period of time to give the owners a chance.
Is this the same over here? Don't want to think of the worst, but back in the UK we knew how the system worked - but don't here.
Thanks for any advice

I don't know.
There's the CIDEC, which get dead cats phone: 022 342 50 43.
I know some people tell their city hall that their cat has disappeared.
you can also post that you've lost your cat on the forum of SOS Chat, but now, it's in French.

Here is some information (in English) from ANIS about what to do if your pet is lost. The website has information covering either the secenario that your pet is microchipped and registered with ANIS (which I'm guessing your cat is, as microchipping is part of the requirements for importing a pet), and also if it is not chipped. http://www.anis.ch/en/helpinfolinks/helpinfolinks/4/
The previous pages (Page 1, 2 and 3) detail what to do if you find an animal, just for reference.
The website doesn't have any specific details about what to do if you find a dead household animal, but as there is a page for registering the death of a pet, my guess is they would probably be good people to contact in that scenario too.
I hope your furry friend is found soon!

Thanks ever so much, the missus is getting all upset about the daft cat, but as I said, when it went awol in London, we had posters up and everything - but he turned up after 13 days!
I think it's only when a cat looks distressed that people take note, and also the fact that he's a big bugger (9kg) but not fat, he can look after himself, in fact half of me is waiting for the police to knock on the door because he has got into a fight with one of the ratty dogs.....
Thanks again, and I'll post if we get any news - he might like Geneva so much he's gone native!

good point.... I'm right in the middle of my coop@home ordering process, which (as I speak very little French, even less German, and no Italian) takes the best part of all evening..........

Here's hoping that your daft cat comes home soon! As he has done it before, you know that he is capable of fending for himself. And ... this is the land of missing cat happy endings!!

I hate it when they go missing and everybody cries and loses weight, and then they just nonchalently wander home. Not knowing the tears and heartache that they have caused.
As said on another thread, Jimmy was away for 8 months.
Just do what i did - go out calling his name through snow storms and rain and sun etc.
When he wants to come home he will.
Where are you in Geneva? I could have a look around.
A picture would help.
Wee bastards...
I don't know about the micro chips and finding animals.

The little fella (or rather not so little as he is over 9kgs) - has decided to come home! He wondered in the other day, as if it was a hour since he left the house rather than the two weeks!!!!!!!!!
Cats eh! who'd have 'em!

This seems rather strange, but there are a lot of cats gone missing lately. Are we going to get hit by an earthquake? |

LondonAl - I was just about to post my story (in a nutshell: Maud went missing for 5 weeks; people told me here to keep the faith; I didn't; mourned her; she reappeared thinner and grumpier but alive) - but HURRAH your puss is home.
(Now make sure you have the out-of-hours vet number for your area. I'm on a mission!)
Oh - as I found during Maud's absence - our rubbish dump has a place for dead animals (Tierkoerpersammelstelle) - my friend went there for me and said it was very respectful and the man was lovely. You don't need this info (thank goodness) but someone in the future might. I'm sure other cantons have them too.

@maud - when the little fella came back he wasn't any thinner, just dirtier and miaowing even louder than before!

Honestly I hate when they do that. I have 3 cats, 2 of whom go wandering every now and then, I should be used to it by now. But no, whenever I haven't seen one for a couple of days, I run around the village, calling, worrying...and of course when I'm about ready to put some posters up, they come trotting in like nothing has happened. Almost rolling their eyes: "What? Worried? Well, I was busy.."
And of course, one has not been home since Monday again. Cats, eh..

Yes Patsy, on EF. otherwise: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/6253634.stm
Yes, chip your cats! We've tried to put collars with name tags on them too, but after they lost about 25th, we gave up.
Hope my current wanderer comes home today..

Hope so too Ullainga. Even though they are so resourceful - as shown by the stories on here - it's still a fretful time when they vanish. *fingers crossed your wanderer is curled up asleep when you get home
Fortunately the rainy weather + fear of the neighbourhood bully and/or age has driven 3 of my 4 indoors. The 4th lives in the field across the road apart from when he proudly drags buffalo/pheasants/other assorted large birds & animals into the house as a gift for me.
