Actually if one of the guinea pigs dies then you do not have to get another one as they might fight...I have 1 rabbit now and did some research and you do not have to have them in pairs unless they are from the same litter..confused now am I doing something illegal?

Well, we had three rabbits for a month or so (we had one, were given another, and bought a third), but then a marten cam along and killed the newbees (who were each about 1/3 the size of our tried and true Ticinese Nostrano, who weighs in at 4 kg!)

Since then, we are kind of loathe to get a second rabbit.

I think if this is law then the pet stores should encourage it by charging less for the second guinea pig or rabbit. They are the ones who are benifitting from the this law the most.Qualipet prices for guinea pigs and rabbits is absolutely insane as it is.

I used to breed rabbits years back and when they got to three months old they were separated as the fighting was just terrible, two buck rabbits can inflict terrible injuries on each other,even fight to the death,the pet store should also ensure that people buy the right size cage/hutch as I have seen many small cages here that are simply not suited for two animals. At the end of the day pet stores are there for selling their products I have not really seen much proof that they care for the critters they are selling

Well, you know guinea pigs were among the first animals domesticated in the New World...and I don't think it was for their milk or fur, somehow.
