| | | Cat fighting
My cat is being badly bullied by another cat in our apartment complex. On Friday he came home with a cut ear, Saturday he returned with a deep gash to his right eye and then this morning he staggered home limping, before collapsing on the floor unable to move his front paws
My wife raced him to the vet and they found the cause, teeth puncture wounds near his shoulder. He's been given pain relief, antibiotics and is now recuperating at home.
If I find the mangy moggie who did this, he'd better brush up on his French because I'm sending him on a very long holiday to Geneva | | The following 11 users would like to thank Castro for this useful post:

It happened to our cat as well. She had nasty injuries requiring stiches on three separate occasions but we don't know whose cat is to blame.
One contributory cause may be that despite our cat being smaller than average, she never ever backs down.

So Geneva is the new Coventry. Must say I know which one I'd prefer to be sent to, lol.
Both our neighbours have male cats, both 'done' - and they do fight regularly. They seek each other out - and both get injured, vet, anitbiotics, etc- but really you couldn't blame one or the other for bullying- they are both as bad as the other. How do you know your cat is the innocent party?

Aside from cat-napping, your other alternative is to find a sniping position from which you can take out the offender. | | The following 4 users would like to thank NotAllThere for this useful post:

The bullying may stop if you stop sending the poor thing out like this: (photo found here) | | The following 6 users would like to thank Peg A for this useful post:

I thought someone drove on him! I hope Mister D will recover well. Give him a big hug and kisses from us. Maybe he should stay inside? | Quote: | | | | | . Doesn't sound like he's being bullied, sounds like he's standing his ground. I've had cats before and the fact that he's coming home injured means he has aspirations of being the alpha, betas will retreat. Besides you don't know who initiated the fights, or the state of the other cat - there could well be another owner as miffed as you about their cat's injuries and subsequent vets bills.
In any event I wish your hard as nails moggy a swift recovery | | The following 3 users would like to thank Slaphead for this useful post:

We had a monster of a cat who had cuts, grazes and one almost shredded ear. He was one mean mofo, but incredibly affectionate with his humans | | The following 3 users would like to thank PaddyG for this useful post:

Castro, I think its just your cat defending his territory thats all. A new cat might have moved and encroaching onto his territory. I am no cat expert but something tells me that you just have to wait it out and let them work it out themselves. Downside of being an outdoor cat and all.
Sorry to hear about the little critter though - hope he feels better soon.

| | | Re: Cat fighting | Quote: | | | | | Because he's a lover not a fighter | | | | | Seriously Castro, one look at him tells me he's a hunter killer, you can see it in the eyes. I'll bet you never get the odd mouse or bird in house. why? Becuase he's already despatched and eaten said prey - there's nothing left to bring home.
Webster, mine and my housemates cat, was feral. Hard as coffin nails when it came to other cats, but so trusting and cuddly with us. He'd take on anything outside, which was his downfall - unfortunately he exceeded his abilities when it came to tackling a 1.5 ton lump of metal moving at 40mph.
Cat scraps, he had many, but I'd take a bruised and battered Webster anyday compared to a flat one. That said cats are free agents in my mind, and letting them out, and the risks associated with that, is for me part and parcel of having a cat.

"If cats didn't look nice and make a pleasing noise when we stroke them, we'd realise what evil minded bastards they all are" - to paraphrase Pratchett. It's one of the reasons I like them.
