English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

I have been getting by on my minimal German at the Tierspital (animal hospital), but I would prefer to find a private vet for my dog who is comfortable in English.

Thanks for any recommendations...

I used a scatty chap near the Strassenverkehrsamt "Gabrieli" was his name, Uetlibergstrasse 268 was his address, 044 462 0612 his number.

In my opinion, he's ok.

Re: English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

I am very happy with our vet, Dr. Jöhr, in Küsnacht ZH. He is an outstanding vet, very thorough, very caring, speaks excellent English (and French, and several others...)

KLEINTIERPRAXIS
Dr. med. vet. Lorenz Jöhr
Allmendstrasse 4
CH - 8700 Küsnacht
Tel. 01 912 04 04
Fax 01 912 00 04

E-Mail: praxis@joehr.com

http://www.joehr.com

He works closely with the Tierspital (animal hospital), and will refer you to the specialists there when necessary.

(And at the Tierspital, I think very highly of Dr. Glaus. )

Re: English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

Hi Kardyhm,
Saw your message about English-speaking Vets. Here are the ones I know about:
Dr. Andreas Hagen (he speaks perfect English, sorry, don't know if his staff does)
Zürichstr.1, 8134 Adliswil
044 709 06 66

Dr. Bruno Litschi
Böhnirainstr. 10, 8800 Thalwil
044 720 00 11, Mon-Fri 13-15 & 17-18:30, Sat. 9-11
All my doggie English-speaking friends go to him. His offices are a little awkward to get to via public transport - so it's best you have a car.

Dr. Ulrich Coradi
Mutschellenstr. 77, 8038 Zurich (in Wollishofen)
044 481 64 64
The Bus 33 stops practically in front of his office.

Good luck in your search,
D.H.

Re: English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

Found a very nice vet practice in Birmensdorf (only a few stops out of town on S9 or S15). All staff speak English and they are really pleasant and helpful.

Best of all, the vet is experienced in pet export requirements - including Australia and NZ.

Dr Alfred Huber
Muhlemattstrasse 13
8903 Birmensdort

That is an important point to have a vet that understands the pet passport system if you are going back and forth with your dog to England. Our vet was on Holiday one time we went and the replacement vet made a pig’s ear of the paperwork. Ended up paying a French vet quite a bit of money for a stamp and a signature.

Re: English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

Hi doggie fans,

I arrived with our 3 labs last Friday, 1 was having treatment in France for a pulled tendon. He's out of meds and the condition is'nt really fixed, which means a trip to the vets. Sadly his Swiss/German is zero like ours so I'm looking for advice on a good, English speaking vet, we live in Mettmenstetten, and as I think it's to much to ask that there is one here, can anyone recommend a vet in the area?

Many thanks

Re: English-speaking veterinarians in Zürich general area

We brought our Lab from the US. She is now 5, and for the past 2+ years we have been taking her to the Tierspital Zurich (Winnterthurstr. 260 8057 - 01 635 81 11). It is easy to get to with public transportation and our doctor is German and did his training in the US, so speaks perfect English. His name is Dr. Kook.

Very happy with him and Tierspital.

fduvall

Looks like möpp covered the map to Tierspital. We took the Tram 7 to the stop Tierspital. From there it is a 2 minute walk following the signs...

Here is the link for the Cantonal Animal Hospital (Tierspital) including map:
http://tel.search.ch/zuerich/wintert...s-tierspital-2

I don't know how you move around (public transportation/car?) but it's on the main axis leading to/out of Zurich when you drive to the airport. It really can't be missed.

Here's another link which might help you finding the place. In general, map.search.ch is excellent for most everything

I can second the recommendation for Dr. Litschi. I took my slightly nervous cat to him this morning, and had a very positive experience. Dr. Litschi and his staff quickly put my cat at ease, and the cat didn't even notice that he had a vaccination.

Also, Dr. Litschi was very accommodating with both scheduling an appointment (I called yesterday, got an appointment this morning) and with our need for an international health certificate in a few months time.
