Thank you very much! |

Just so you know. It will be hamster S. You are not longer allowed to purchase one hamster in CH. You can do a search of EF if you want more details.

There is someone in Saxon who is selling some. Third last ad on the first page. There may be others.

No!!! Hamsters are an exception! They are not sociable at all: if kept together they'll fight to death when they reach their sexual maturity! Except if you have a couple, in which case you're facing other problems | | The following 4 users would like to thank Mélusine for this useful post:

My OH used to have 3 hamsters. One was on a cage by himself because he was fighting with the others. The other 2 though were in the same cage with no fighting. I dont know what sex they were but probably they were the same because in two years we didnt have babies

Oh, and one more thing about hamsters: they are not all cute cuddly creatures... A significant amount of them are biting monsters who hate being petted and cuddled...
My own hamster, Ratatouille, is one of those. We've never been able to touch him. At the slightests occasion (putting my finger in the cage to give food, for instance) he literally jumps at me and bites me severly. The tip of my index finger got bitten so deeply that a)it got infected, and b)the tip lost all sensitivity for weeks after that!
Imagine our disappointment, and especially my son's, when we discovered we couldn't bond with our new pet!

I'm pretty sure he would be terribly upset to be set free: unable to find food by himself, facing the cold and the predators, etc. He has a spacious cage, with toys and food.
I understand your concern, but that's pure anthropomorphism.

I've personally owned pretty much every kind of rodent one could possibly own... degus, hamsters, dwarf hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, gerbils, etc. My least favorite were the dwarf hamsters (you can look but don't touch), most favorite were gerbils. I just looked at the Qualipet location finder and they seem to have 1000s of locations. I bet there is one in your area too. Here's the link and good luck hope it helps... http://www.qualipet.ch/standorte |

But it was possible to get him out by placing a treat in his food bowl and take the bowl while he was munching.
He was okay with getting tender loving care for a couple of minutes but was more of a solitary being in general.

Gerbils are indeed great. Rats as well, but not for young kids. And their lifespan is so short, it's always a drama when they die.
Guinea pigs are great: they never bite, love to be cuddled and are nice for kids. But they do ask for quite a lot of cares (fresh veg every day, hay) and need a big cage.
We bought our two guinea pigs at Qualipet.

There is no such thing as too much cuddling... in a girl's world though. |

Oh, dear, only two minutes of love?
Seems hardly worth the investment required to care for and feed him! | | This user would like to thank Textoch for this useful post:
