Wahl Smartgroom Pet Nail Grinder?

Have any of you seen a Wahl Pet Nail Grinder here in Switzerland, or anyplace that delivers to CH?

This is what I'm looking for:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Smartgr...6891027&sr=8-2

(Unfortunately Amazon won't ship this to Switzerland.)

Zooplus has something similar, but that model gets rather bad reviews. If any of you use another model grinder, I'd be interested in your comments. (The Wahl product is rated highly by folks on a UK pet board, which is really the only reason I'm after this particular model - I'm open to suggestions.)

Poor Haifisch's nails are becoming more and more of a problem - the quick grows right down to the end of the nail - trimming, no matter how little, ends in a blood bath. At present the only way to keep his nails manageable is for the vet to clip and cauterize as he goes. As you can imagine, the procedure is quite unpleasant for the pooch. I'm thinking a grinder might be an improvement - or at least worth trying.

I thought about trying OH's Dremel tool... but it's not quite the right shape/angle for me (while holding a squirming sheltie), so I'm looking for something designed to do this.

Many thanks.

Hello, why not get http://www.supercard.ch/images/gifts_small/132031.jpg? I remembered seeing that they have this one on offer through the Coop supercard points.

Maniküre- und Pediküre-Set mit Licht BEURER
Mit hellem LED-Licht. Rechts- und Linkslauf. Drehzahl: 2400 U/min-6100 U/min. Stufenlos regulierbar. 9 hochwertige Saphier-Aufsätze: Saphirkegel, Filzkegel, Saphirscheibe (fein), Zylinderfräser, Flammenfräser, Saphirfräser, Nadelfräser, Saphirkegel (lang und grob), Saphirscheibe (grob). Für Diabetiker geeignet. Rutschfeste Griff-Fläche. Netzbetrieb mit kraftvollem Getriebe. Praktische Aufbewahrungstasche. Kunststoff (ABS, PVC), Saphir. Ø 3,5 x 14,6 cm. 240 g (inklusive Netzteil).

7'190 Punkte

Nr. 132031

The description sounds close enough to do the job, I imagine it quite wieldy, and with the lights it has, might be a real plus. It is also, supposedly, suitable for diabetics, so that should be worth something.

I would try it first if you have enough points, it makes it more or less free, so even if it's rubbish, you don't lose anything. You can of course return it as well.

If you don't collect those points let me know and we can work something out I'm sure. Good luck.

Re: Wahl Smartgroom Pet Nail Grinder?

If you look at the thing on amazon.co.uk, right below it, there are offers from other vendors offering the same item new...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...&condition=new

I believe that the second vendor - cost mad or something or other will ship to Switzerland (Europe Zone 3).

The other thing you'll need is a UK-Ch outlet converter, since I think this plugs into a wall...

If you get one, let us know how it works with your dog. I can't imagine that Lily would let me get near her with a whirring thing.

And for the third vendor, apparently the item is purchased most often with Belgian chocolates, which I hope they're not giving to the dog! Perhaps once you grind the nails on your pet, there is need for chocolate?

Sorry, Uaula - I'm limited to my (insert expletive here) phone or tablet, and for some reason can't see the PM function on either of these. So until I get back to a real computer, I can't answer PMs or clean the inbox. Sorry.

We have Whippets and know a number of Whippet breeders, and use Dremel's without an issue. The dogs actually like/react less to the Dremel as they don't like the cutting/pinching sensation from any style of cutter including the guillotine ones.

No way would I try a grinder until you can get those quicks under control, but once you do we've found it to be an easier process on both the dogs and us.

Good luck

I would look for a dremel. They are highly recommended for the parrot's nails, and I speak from experience here when I say that is much more difficult than the dog's as you cannot see the quick, even with a flashlight.

Re: Wahl Smartgroom Pet Nail Grinder?

I'm a mobile dog groomer and have the grinder you're talking about! I got it from Christie's International which ships from the UK. You could also try HUB international, which is a pet grooming business that also operates out of the UK. I actually prefer HUB as they are less expensive regarding shipping costs and have great customer service, but Christie's is very good also.

Here are the links:

Hope that helps
