First time I am thinking on my dogs long hair...but an interesting decision.
Option a) pay 300 CHF to cut his hair ina grooming pet place
Option b) how much does a hair cutting machine cost, and I do it myself
Option C) Any other choice? Cheaper pet stores near Lausanne? Can someone help me cut his hair, before i leave him like a Chihuahua dog? Is there a machine that can leave a 5 cm long hair for dogs ( his hair is like 10cm, and is making him very uncomfortable to see, eat and walk outdoors)?
I have a Shih Tzu who also needs a haircut. In UK i used to pay £27 for a wash and cut, in CH the best price i have been quoted is 280CHF.
I did option B, bought clippers and tried it myself. It took my husband and i 3 hours in total. The dog looked ok but it was such an effort and the hair went everywhere. Plus the clippers broken after only one cut despite lots of oiling.
This weekend i am hoping to take dog to Thonon Les Bains for his haircut. There are several toilettage salons, can't recommend one but from personal experience i would avoid Dandy Chien. Average price for a dog haircut is approx 60€. Will do a spot of shopping whilst dog is being pampered.
Look in Pages Jaunes.
Ps. I have heard there is an excellent lady near Annecy, but that is quite a trek.
who the heck are you all calling for these quotes????
In the US I was paying $100 for a Schnauzer cut. Here I'm paying 130CHF.... not that big of a difference considering the Swiss price gouging. But... I make sure that he stays brushed out and dematted, and I only take him in every 3-4 months for a full groom.
Are you keeping your dog brushed, free of mats and tangles??? Because that can also drive up the price if the groomer has to spend more time and effort to work through those.
I take my Shih Tzu to a place in Montreux where they charge me CHF80 for a FULL grooming service (I keep him short). Granted they use a trimmer as far as I can tell while my groomers in US were doing everything with scissors, but I'm satisfied with the end result (and judging by the posts here should be happy with the price I pay as well).
I have tried several places in Lausanne and 85-100CHF an hour to cut a Shih Tzu, 3 hours needed, is what i have been quoted. He isn't matted at all. Please could you pass on the details of the place in Montreux.
