Gucci needs a temporary/permanent home

Please can you help?

A beautiful 2 year old black-and-white cat is looking for a new home, sadly. He arrived to Zurich last week and is not settling in to an apartment lifestyle with small kids.

Gucci is a rescued cat from Ireland, and is looking for a 6 month temporary home or if the right one comes along, a forever-home.

He is neutered, chipped, has EU passport and all vaccines up to date.

Personal message me, Merja Sumiloff, for more information msumiloff@gmail.com

Re: Gucci needs a temporary/permanent home

Hi Merja

He's so sweet!

Please give him more time. When we moved our two over the new apartment freaked them out for more than a week. They hid whenever they could. It was only when some of our things arrived from the UK that they became more settled.

If he's getting stressed, make sure he has somewhere comfortable to curl up and hide which is quiet - one of ours seems to feel more secure once he's buried himself under a blanket!

Also ensure his litter tray and food are accessible, and if possible in a quiet area as well. Hopefully with a little bit of time he'll come around and begin to enjoy his new home.

Regards
Ferkel

Ferkel, many thanks for your response, but it's not actually helpful. I know that with time he would be ok, but the people who agreed to have him at their apartment have now changed their minds, so it's not up to me.

So this lovely cat is NOT your cat? Just trying to understand what is going on.

Re: Gucci needs a temporary/permanent home

Yes he is, but we are living with my family, who are not cat people, and without going into too much detail, they have now asked me to find him a new home.

The issue is that I'm moving to Australia in July, and I need to keep him in Switzerland for 6 months before I can get them to quarantine over there.

Originally this was not supposed to be a problem for my family, but that has now changed.

Hello Merja,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation with Gucci.

Until you find him a longer term solution, you could try the plug-in product for cats called 'Feliway', it is "a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone, used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure". I used it when I brought my cat over from London, and it really calmed her down as she can be quite nervous.

Very best wishes!

Poppet, thanks so much for your reply. I have the plug-in. I got it originally for the time that he was neutered and it worked really well then as well.

That is wonderful, Gucci is a beauty and deserves a great new home!

Hoping any of the two leads will materialize soon.

Re: Gucci needs a temporary/permanent home

Glad to hear that things look like working out for Gucci. I would have loved to take him myself, but we're just not ready to get another cat yet. Still too much stuff in the house to find a home for after recent house move and need to work out getting some outdoor cat space organised first. Hope details are finalised soon for him, whether it's just temporary until he can join you in Aus or whether he's off to a new permanent home here. And good luck on your move too.
