Has anyone participated in (or knows someone who has) in Swiss dog shows?

There's a show coming up in Lausanne in October, and was thinking... it being the first time and all... all tips and advise is welcome.

I used to show & breed dogs. Not anymore. It's been a few years. What kind of dog do you have? How old it is?

I have a 3 month old female Weimaraner from a line of show dogs. Sire is some hot shot in US, dame in Europe. Her sister already won Best Baby in Poland.

Cute. I don't know anyone in Basel. But usually people at the breed club will be able to help. Have you found the Swiss Weimaraner club yet?

Also, on the Lausanne dog show site it should have the forms and requirements for signing up to show. She'll need to have her shots.

They are usually quite tolerant of newbies with puppies.

Google hasn't been very helpful in finding a Swiss breed club for Weimaraners, but there are clubs for hunting dogs (including weims). Will look into that, and just ask around among trainers both side of the border.

yeah. she would we put in the "puppy" category, and how strict can they be with a 6 month old adolescent oh, the shots, every vet visit costs a small fortune.

and another thing, local pet stores only sell below or just average food. You'd think that in a country where everything is bio, you would have high quality food for pets. Aint the case.

The SKG show world is not my thing, so I'm only going by what my colleagues who are involved have told me, but...

I believe that in order to show your dog needs to be 'eingeburgert' , that is, you need to join and present your pedigree to the SKG breed club.

Dont have a clue about dog breeds, just found what a cutie are those Weimaraners

Not sure about the Weimaraner, but I didn't have to join the breed club to show. Only to breed. But you do need to provide a copy of your dogs pedigree for every show you want to enter.

Then again it was a while ago. So things could have changed.

I doubt things have changed much, given the general pace of change here so your experience is most likely still valid.

(My involvement with the SKG world is only via liasing on the rescue side. The only thing my crew of misfit fruitbats have ever won is the key to my heart. )
