This story is just too sad for me

Re: Sad day - cat with cancer

So sorry to read this

I still remember what it was like when my dog had cancer, and I had to say goodbye.

There was a website called petloss.com, that I turned to on the sad day I had to let her go. It's a little sentimental on there, but I found it to be really helpful and nice, to talk to other people who are going through the same grief. (Even the strongest of hearts grieve when we experience the loss of a special friend) I also liked that I was able to leave a tribute for my lovely dog on there as well. It seemed to help the healing process in a way.

We have cats now, and I know how hard this news must have been for you.

Enjoy the time you have left with your lovely cat, and I wish you all the best.

This news is too sad ... you will be losing one of your family. I am sure that she, herself, senses it. She will appreciate all the extra snuggles and will feel as happy in her remaining days as she has obviously been with you until now.

Re: Sad day - cat with cancer

The vet gave our little girl an injection of steroids which has worked wonders. She has her appetite back, she's gaining a little weight, and she's moving around a little more easily. She still spends most of her time on her favourite spot on the couch, but she was waiting for me at the front door when I came home from the office last night, and at the bottom of the stairs this morning, demanding her breakfast.

Even more importantly, she wanted to 'play' last night, pouncing on my finger wiggling under a blanket. It's been a long time since she had the energy to play.

The other cat seems to know something's up -- the two were grooming each other last night, something I haven't seen them do in years.

We've made our decision. The vet says that the steriods will give her about two weeks of relief, and it will give us two more weeks to say goodbye. It's a tough decision, but for the best.

Here she is this morning...

I am so sorry to hear about this sad news. She is beautiful. I lost my cat when she was 14 of cancer, she was gone within 48h and it felt like I was loosing my baby. I now have 2 cats and can't imagine of when that moment will happen again. Bon courage! Take care.

She looks like a kitten! How beautiful.

I'm so sorry to hear your news VI I'll make sure I get a little less cross with our kitty tonight when I find the latest thing he has broken.

So sorry to hear the sad news VI. She is a truly beautiful cat.

It's always so hard to lose a beloved pet even though we know that time wil eventually come. Make the most of the precious time you have left with her.

I gave our cat an extra long cuddle this morning.

Re: Sad day - cat with cancer

I'm so glad to hear that the steroid has helped.

The important thing to remember is that our pets live for today without worrying about tomorrow - as long as our furry friends are enjoying today, palliative care is the right thing to do.

Treasure this time together.

Wishing you, the family, and your kitty all the very best.

This - and also that they usually tell us when they've had enough. Don't focus on "two weeks", focus on as long as she's happy on the steroids

Settled in for the night. Normally these two sisters are very independent, but since she came home from the vet the other day, they've been inseparable.

Re: Sad day - cat with cancer

What a beautiful post Melloncollie, and so true.

She is soooooo beautiful Village Idiot, she doesn't really look like and eldery cat but a young beautiful one... Enjoy and treasure her, and keep in mind her long happy life that she is enjoying with you, what the future brings is unfortunately part of nature... Just hug her and enjoy her as much as you can... She deserves it. Big hug.

15 years old is a good effort. And the cat will not go through a lot of pain.

We must all move on when our time comes. That's life.

Kind regards...
