So sorry, as I am sure this is not the answer you are looking for.
Pet shops are nasty, horrible, wicked places -and if it were up to me, they would all be banned from this world, as they are in Switzerland and 1000x more so at Christmas.

YOU WILL NOT FIND A CAT IN either shop, at kolle you can get snakes, rats, mice, spiders, rabbits, gerbils, fish and birds...
BTW the "bird expert" says that the birds are 6 weeks old - a total lie, they are minimum 1-2 years old.

The words "pet" and "store" should not be combined in any way, shape or form - attaching a price to a life is so wrong
I would support pet supply stores, though - places which sell fish tanks, pet food, hay etc. - if the things offered are animal friendly. Unfortunately, cages and such are rarely the size they should be to offer animals a nice life.
So please, amanda.grande - go to a shelter or a rescue if you intend to get a pet - any pet.

You're being urged to adopt a rescue animal (or preferably two, to keep each other company) instead of supporting animal cruelty by buying one from a pet shop, which is what you originally indicated you intended to do. Frankly I'm amazed at the restraint that's been shown so far.

I think that the point has been made clearly. She is now looking to adopt a kitten (on another thread) so let's leave the antagonism towards our new member please

Probably should just take her at face value, and that these are two separate threads - this one for pet supplies, and the other for adopting. No need to jump to conclusions yet.

Since you can't mail-order kittens, and since they have the best prices by far, can I please recommend: www.zooplus.co.uk
We have our orders sent to LAS Burg in Germany, but high-end food is half the price it is in the Swiss shops, even after paying for delivery.

Yes! But you had better be nimble, and be quick.
Especially if your name is jack. | Quote: | | | | | But I already jumped! Do I need to jump back? I'm tired. | | | | | |

As food we alwys order wolfsblut, don't know what good cat food is but you shouldn't try to save money and give cheap food, it is usually low quality.

Newb question: What do you call a store where you can buy pet food and supplies?
When the OP said that she was looking for a pet store, I immediately assumed she was looking for the above items, NOT a pet. So when I move to Basel next week and have to find a litter box and supplies for my cat, what kind of store am I supposed to ask for? |

Chains inSwitzerland are Qualipet or Fressnapf.
And you are right, for me a pet store sells food and other items related to pets, sometimes also fish or birds, turtles and such, but I have never seen one around that sells dogs or cats.
