Cat Flap installation needed, ZH. Any recommendations?

Hello,

I need a cat flap installed into my balcony door and need a recommendation for a reasonably priced glaser.

I had this done in the UK and it cost 80 GBP. I've had a few quotes from Glasers here and I'm looking at 500CHF upwards! Which, frankly is way too much. But before I bite the bullet and pay up can anyone offer any help?

In case you all ask, I can't give you dimensions of the glass panel in question but it is the lower half of the door (old style wooden frame with two separate glass panels, NOT the new double-glazed frames/doors).

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers!

putting into glass is expensive, you could just get the bottom panel replaced with a UPVC panel and then install it yourself, would probably save you an awful lot.

Just had another quote of 'upwards of 300chf' so if anyone has any info or knows someone, it would be great. Logically, I can't imagine anyone in CH doing it for much less than 300, but still...

Are you renting?

I ask because landlords can be... difficult... when it comes to handing the flat back if you have installed a cat door. Even when permission is given, one often needs to hand the flat back with the the flap taken out and the original panel replaced - and looking pristine. Which will cost you probably the same again as the cat flap installation.

If you can remove the bottom panel Markina suggests, do so.

Or do what neighbors of mine did - buy an inexpensive new door at Hornbach or B/H, put the cat flap in that. If your balcony door is a standard size it should still cost less. Save the old door, and re-install it before the handover. It's a lot easier to install a new door than to install a cat flap into a door not designed with that in mind.

Good luck!

We paid several 100 chuffs for our cat-flap. The window we wanted flapping is Argon(?)-filled double-glazing, so they had to make an entire new pane with the hole cut into it. We still have the original pane in the cellar should we ever want to swap it out again.

Hi there - does anyone recommend a good company that is fast and reliable (since it's going to cost a fortune anyway?)
thanks!

If you can remove your door and take it to a glazier, it will be much cheaper,

Thanks, Sbrinz - this is very helpful. The only concern is how to remove large door... Will ask the glazier... see if someone close by has an idea. Seems like there are no easy fixes on this one.
