...when you use an alias when talking about your dog so she doesn't know you are talking about her.

Our favorites are cute old German names, such as Elfriede, Hildegard, Brunhilde and the like.

Re: You know you have gone to the dogs.....

you-know-you-have-gone-dogs-image.jpg....when you repeatedly and w/o intention use aliases for your dog..ie my son gets called by the dog's name and vice versa. I love them both - both usually a bit grimy and smelly and VERY cuddly (my 12 yr old human isn't on EF so I'll get away with that)

We don't use aliases, but we spell certain things out for the same reason. "Who is going to take the D.O.Gs. O.U.T?"

Sometimes we do that too, very much like we used to when the kids were little.

We do the same - "isn't it time we took you know who out for W.A.L.K.I.E.S." and if we want them to come in from the garden, we just open the door and call out "Sausage", and they come running!

We've gotten to the point where she understands open the door, door, and OTD. Also when i put my shoes on, she assumes i'm taking her out. Hungry, dinner and breakfast are all proxies for a meal. Yeah, we know who runs this house!

Re: You know you have gone to the dogs.....

... when friends you haven't seen for a while ask "How is the dog?"

... when you show family pictures and you point out the dog first

.... when you search the internet for a dog birthday cake recipe

... when you treat your daughter's dog as if she were your only grandchild (ah well, she is, sort of )

... when your kids have outgrown childcare and now you organise dogcare

... when you find yourself standing in the pouring rain, despite running a high fever and generally feeling like death warmed over, trying to figure out how to turn the compost pile into a collie-proof fortress.

... and having come up with a brilliant design, walk away - only to turn around and find Sir Heffalump has once again outwitted me.

(Awaiting the usual 'dietary indiscretion' results, thank doG for Fortiflora.)

Good thing I love him dearly.

Poor meloncollie. Feel better! Hope Heffalump gives you some love, once he gets over his discretion.

One of Heffalump's better qualities is that he is an outstanding Bettwarmflasche. Furry cuddles, and all is forgiven.
