Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

It is my opinion that when cats go missing, they do so because they feel life is better somewhere else, and they just leave.

If the owners had fitted a micro chip their straying pets could be re-united, but most can't be bothered can they?

It is my experience that when cats go missing it is becuase they have been squashed by a passing car.

The road cleaing, at least in the German parts of Switzerland, is sufficiently efficient that the evidence doesn't hang around for long.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

A crazy woman kidnapped mine and kept him locked up in her apartment for eight months, about 100m away from his real home.

He only came home because she left her front door open one morning.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

Apart from car accidents and kidnappings (wtf?!) many cats get trapped in cellars while exploring and cannot get out.

Also from my experience most cat owners chip their cats. We have found cats on 2 occasions and we could get them back to their people fairly easily

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

He just came home, and she came round that same day insisting he was hers!!

How she found out where he was, i don't know. It was all a bit surreal.

But i knew he was mine, he has a broken front tooth and a black bottom lip. He is also chipped - but there was no way in hell i was going to drag him all the way to the vets just to prove that he was mine. I think the police were also mentioned in my complete freak out!!

She backed off after that.

I had put the posters up on every apartment front door in the vicinity, funnily the one on her door was often ripped off!!

I went through the grieving process for ages after he disappeared, and was just so happy to have him home. As was his sister, who washed his face when he came through the door!!

One thing, he was well looked after so i couldn't fault her for that. In fact, i think he was rather spoilt!!

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

Sadly, due to my living circumstances. The cat now lives in France, with a big garden and fields all around. Just the right place to retire at the age of 15.

I don't see him anymore. It was the best solution for him.

I miss him every day. Heartwrenching, but he needed a loving home to go to and i hope he has it. They have promised to e mail me piccies over the past two years - but i haven't received any. C'est la vie.

But i did hear that he is loving it and is healthy. And still alive.

Sometimes you have to make that horrible decision for your furry friends. I have asked the lady that arranged his move numerous times if i can go and see him, always with a negative response. All i get is - he is in good health and enjoying life.

Basically, he is no longer my cat. But in my heart he always will be. Looking through old documents the other day, i found his passport. And also those of three other cats that did die. Funny the stuff you keep hidden in a shoe box!!

I've already told my story of Jimmy the cat on the forum a few times, also about his antics and accidents and vet bills etc. He was/is one in a million. And i feel priviledged to have been his slave for 13 years....!!! Stupid silly memories pop up in your head and make you laugh and cry.

Funny, i just rang my mum up in Edinburgh and she asked why i had "my little girl voice on"!! Thinking about cats and things..

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

Sorry,

I did go on a bit about Jimmy.

But he was is special in my heart.

And sometimes its nice to let it all out!!!

I'm sure all of you who have loved and lived with furballs can understand.

Thanx for reading.

And don't worry, i shall mention him again in the future!!! Just with my oh so prolific cat knowledge!! I doubt that!! Whiskas over raw food. Well, another subject.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

You know,

I cried for the first time in months after writing all that. It felt good. And i have noticed that a lot of people write about their pets and sadness and happiness too.

It's good to write it all out, because sometimes talking about it to friends or family. Lets face it, they get bored after a while!! Get over it!!

But to write and try to convey your feelings is good. And reading other peoples stories makes you realise that you are not alone or the only "crazy cat woman", you are a person who has feelings and empathy also for others.

I feel, even now, that i let Jimmy down. Having to give him away. But, i know, it was the best thing for him.

Which is why, oftentimes, i don't like the comments that some people make about when people have to give their animals up for adoption.

I never knew 15 years ago when that wee kitten just turned up on my bed, that my life would have taken the turn that it did. And that i would have had to make that absolutely killing decision.

Anyway, babbling away...!!!

Cuddle your furballs for me!! You lucky bastids!!

Yes, cat "kidnapping"...you heard it well. One of my friend's cats was kept in someone's apartment for a couple of weeks and released only when she started to have ugly big wounds because some food allergy that whoever kept her didn't have a clue about.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

And the woman that took Jimmy for eight months, did she think to take him to vets and check if he had a chip - no way. She just thought he was a stray. He must have been the fattest stray in the world!! Because that night there was a storm - he was out and took shelter on her windowsill 100 metres from home.

He had a chip. I was there when they inserted it, like a big stapler thing.

She had no proof of owning a cat of 10 years old, no vaccination papers, no chip paper etc.

It was only when i told her to inflict bodily harm to herself that she backed off.

The months of not knowing, looking under cars on the road.

I even put a poster up in the local COOP where that woman shopped daily. She must have seen it.

Bitch.

There are some odd people in the World, and fortunately i am one of them!!

Oh, and she named him Ziggy!! Imagine poor wee Jimmijoe renamed Ziggy. That must have bruised his pride!!! And his cat braincell must have gone into overdrive.

She even showed me pics of "Ziggy" sitting on her couch. I asked her if she had any pics of Ziggy as a kitten. No, they were lost in a flood... it went on and on and on.

I was told a few months later that this lady suffers from mental problems. Which i understand, but she has to get herself sorted. The next time she takes something home with her it may be a child.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

@Patsycat,

Such a touching story. I think Jimmy was one of the luckiest cat in the world, with you as his "slave". I hope so much that your circumstances will improve and you'll be able to find another...Jimmy. I know he's one in a million, but you know what? You never know.
Sending you a big virtual hug and a few green blobs! That's all I can do.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

Don't worry. The next "Jimmy" will be as loved as the original.

And will probably have a totally different character to the original. But shall be original in his or her own way.

And will probably have me under the paw within seconds of meeting!!

Thanks everyone, again, for your total understanding of my story.

Re: Missing Kitty Posted in Morges (Vaud)

FWIW when our cat disappeared (in Vaud) some years ago we had immense support from:

Centre SVPA
Rte de Berne 318
1000 LAUSANNE 25
annonce@svpa.ch

As it happened, what we learned on line was true: cats rarely stray very far from home but do not respond to calls. We found on a UK Web site the best advice. We left a patio door open and food for the cat, and within a few days our cat returned for a meal.
