A homeless cat near my house

Hi guys,

Recently I've spotted a homeless cat near my house who wanders about in my yard during the day.

Does anybody happen to know any associations who can take care of him? What should I do?

Best,
Moli

Because he spends most of his time during the day in my yard!

That sounds like the definition of a cat.

Does he look as though he's being fed?

Re: A homeless cat near my house

It's great that you care- but the fact he spends time in your garden does NOT mean he his homeless. Does he look thin or sick- is he begging for food and looking as though he is starving? Many cats spend the day outside and go home for the night (unfortunately, many owners kick their cat out at night though)...Just observe for now.

Yes.

By the way, either he is homeless or not, he is disturbing me. I cannot leave my door open because I am afraid he will enter my house.

Do you have any ideas what I should do?

Thanks

Ah- a very different story emerges now. On EF, always best to not drip feed info if you want sensible answers.

Don't harm it whatever you do- but (I hate saying this, as I love cats- but perhaps the least harmful) get a water spray and spray him/her whenever she comes into your garden.

I love animals too, that's why I don't want to harm it even by spraying water.

Get your own pet cat, my cat won't allow any other cats in my garden as soon as she sees another cat she chases them off

If the problem is recent and he looks adult it may just be that his owners are away for a holiday and he is lonely?

on the other hand, if he is so irritating then you may want to invest in cat repellent plants or systems .. though that's quite a bit of an energy for a cat that sounds harmless.

The only way I'm afraid to scare him off if he bothers you. He will soon get the message.

Run at him clapping your hands hard then think about fitting a mosquito door if you want to have the door open without things coming in.

Re: A homeless cat near my house

We have a fixed mosquito sliding door on the kitchen/garden door- it's great (+ 1 for each room in the house)...

Re: A homeless cat near my house

Here's a website dedicated to such things. Though I've heard that 2 litre bottles filled with water also keep them away, though according to this website, it's a myth. Works for some though!

Most cats don't enter other people's houses.

If he does, just putting him outside firmly should bring across the message that he's not welcome.

If he's not actually causing damage in the garden, I wouldn't worry about it. Hanging around in gardens is what cats do.
