How old is he exactly? 17 days younger than nine weeks (IIRC age of the kitten you were looking at before this one) = 6-7 weeks. If you don't know, perhaps the vet can give info.
Did the farmer charge you? Were the kittens vaccinated etc.?

He's cute, hope he gets a name soon.
He looks older than 6-7 weeks to me based on that photo.

I doubt very much if the kitten was vaccinated if he came from a farm. Farmers are usually just grateful to find homes for them and any vaccinations etc ate up to the new owners. On the other hand they are usually free.

In the OP's shoes I would get them checked over and registered with a vet in any case.

He is super cute and I would call him Jasper.

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

I knew someone who named one of his cats Mouse (and his brother was Tiger)
Glad the kitten seems to have already adapted well to your family and vice versa. Enjoy your snuggle time when you get home

He's gorgeous!! I want him!!

Jasper's a cute name. But don't forget that when he is big, you'll probably just call him Lazy Bugger!! And he'll lift his sleepy head and give you "The Look"!!

He was born in the 27.07, just over 8 weeks, he is very young, but doesnt seem as though. His body is very sturdy and robust weighs 860grams perfect weight for a 8 week old. I asked the farmer to keep the cat for another 2 weeks, but she didnt want to, and said that its brothers and sisters will be gone by the next day. The mother doesnt come in much to check on them either.

No, he hasnt been to the vet, I dewurmed him and I got the medication against fleas and parasites, which is all that I can do until the vet appointment on Monday.

He was free, though I gave the farmer Fr50. The farmer advertised on Monday, she recieved 29 answers within 24hours. When I arrived on Tuesday evening 3 cats were already gone.

He is absolutly adorable, he will always find me when he is sleepy, and then will stretch out and nap on me, with his head and feet on my chest! Leaving me somewhat unable to do anything else, not that I am complaining!!

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

Happy Camper!!

I met a lady today and she had a black pug dog. The cutest wee sniffly thing. I asked what her name was expecting Lilly or Rosie or Daisy.

Her name is Boudin - black pudding!! And it suited her!!

Name your cat as his personality grows. But keep lazy bugger in the back of your mind for when he is big!!

Oh oh ... A ginger cat! You do know that they are the most highly intelligent of cats? The classic Garfield was/is a Ginger!

My children (grown up but still "children") have one of these .... he`s like a dog - always at home waiting to greet any guests. ..... supremely intelligent. Has charmed all the neighbors. Steals anything resembling a steak from their kitchens.

And here he is! the absolute darling of the family!!! I cant belive how attached this little kitten is to all of us. Naturally, its favourite place to nap is on one of our laps!

And I must add, this kitten is supposedly 17 days younger than the kittens I saw last week, and he is at least 50% bigger than the other ones. I will lodge a complaint with the tierschutz.

Gosh, I cannot believe how beautiful and rewarding it is to have a cat.
such a pretty baby! enjoy, they are so much fun and its a very rewarding experience being owned by a cat!

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

A quick question;

Would crows attack a 12week old kitten?

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

Crows (along with other animals like foxes and dogs) can attack kittens. I'd keep him inside till he is larger and more capable of defending himself.

Or take him out on a lead so you're with him and the nasty crowsfoxes/dogs won't bother him.

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

He hates that lead, does go anywhere with it on. All he does is try to take it off!
There is a crow pair living in my neighbors fir tree. I will make sure that I am outside with him in the future.

Thanks!

Yeah, that should work too - untill he scampers up said tree without you and you have no way of getting him down again.

Any name for him yet - or at least one that's printable.

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

Takes some time to get used to the lead.. Hope yours learns to not be so bothered by it in the near future. If you can supervise him that is wonderful. If not, there is the option of a building / buying a cat enclosure. I've seen a few around the neighborhood.

Re: Advice needed - buying a kitten

I saw that the little one already came home!

Unfortunately I read this thread too late, but the best suggestion I could give to you as a owner of two cats is...get two!
Now that they are small, they will socialize and play together and while you are not at home they will keep each other company.
It will give you a lot of freedom as when I only had one I felt totally bad at leaving my cat alone at home!
The costs are not much higher, just the vet is double. But for the food you save money as you can buy bigger pack

In case you want to get another one, let me know.
One of my friend in Italy rescues cat in the streets and find a new one home for them. SHe has recently sent a kitten to a girl in Bern (I was there to do the pre check).

Enjoy your little friend, it will change your life in a positive way
