Help housing bunnies!

Hello everyone, my friend is moving to Zurich and wants to bring her two house rabbits with her. They are two neutered boys who are the friendliest cuddliest bunnies ever, she raised one from birth and they are super friendly and good with children (and best friends) My question is she can't have them where she will be living, so would anyone be interested in housing two bunnies in their garden but without the expense and without (all of the) responsibility! I know it's an odd request but I thought maybe someone with children who didn't quite want to commit to pets yet might like to? Obviously who wouldn't mind a lovely brit popping round to play with and feed them!

Re: Help housing bunnies!

Is this supposed to be a temporary arrangement until she can find somewhere to have them with her? Where in Zurich is she moving to? It's not going to be much good if someone is the other side of the city from where she's going to be based.

Re: Help housing bunnies!

Sorry, yes you're right more info needed! She will be in Thalwil for a year and yes it is temporary solution! However, she is happy to travel within 30 mins by public transport, even longer if the host bunny parents are happy to do a bit more hands-on caring.

These are my questions as well. I've got room for a family of Belgian Giants, or any other plus-sized nationality, but depending on where she is living visiting them regularly would be a bit of an effort. When is she planning to arrive?

Re: Help housing bunnies!

She will be living near Thalwil and is arriving in September, although they are not a giant breed. White rabbit (Arthur) is part lop and i'm not sure about the black one (Gene). If you are nearby and have space I would love to know more info!

Obviosly, we would never eat our pet rabbits, as foie-gras would be cheaper!

However, other rabbits, no problem.

Re: Help housing bunnies!

We have the space but we are at least one hour from Thalwil so that won't work.

Re: Help housing bunnies!

If your friend doesn't find a solution here on EF she might consider putting up a notice at the area vet practices, and even larger practices/clinics beyond the immediate area.

Chances are you will find 'bunny savvy' folks that way.

A word of advice, though: Your friend should draw up a formal fostering contract detailing responsibilities, expectations, handling of expenses, etc. I've seen fostering situations get sticky down the road, so a contract is protection for your friend, the foster family, and most importantly, the bunnies.

All the best to the bunnies...

Another thought:

Would your friend consider an exchange? Perhaps a family with other pets needing holiday pet care might take the bunnies in, with an agreement that your friend stay at the family's home occasionally to care for all the critters. I know of a couple fostering situations where this has worked well for all concerned.

Re: Help housing bunnies!

And a question:

Is your friend bringing the bunnies' gear, or should the foster family provide the bunny house and enclosure?

If the latter, what sort of set-up is needed? How large an enclosure, what type of house are they used to, etc.

And - can they live with other bunnies, or with other pet animals? Any restrictions?
