I suspect that the animal might be dyslexic and agnostic as well as incontinent...

Is your dog male or female? You refer to it as a he so I'm guessing it's male. Our 13 year old female has some incontinence issues. We've been giving her Caniphedrin which has stopped the leaking but she has a tough time making it through the night. Don't know about diapers for dogs but I bet they exist. Talk to your vet.

If you know some German, this might be of assistance http://www.dogspot.ch/forum/thema/955 , I have no experience about this whatsoever. I guess there should be a pet shop that stocks them, but the cheaper way would probably be E-bay....
Good luck
(shame about the title... made me chuckle)

Joey, have you asked at your vet's and pet supply store? If they're not affordable, try getting a sturdy pair of men's underwear (in the right size for your dog), cut a hole for the tail and adhere a big sanitary pad in it at the right spot.
Here's an aside but in the vein of what the others wrote (sorry if you're not in a cheery mood):
The Lab pup I'm looking after was dragging around a prayer rug (something my atheist other half bought ages ago not knowing its purpose) which she had appropriated for herself. It looked like she was looking for good 'qi' or the right direction or whatever (I'm not a prayer expert). All this happened after she looked in a mirror for the first time. She thought she saw god. I suspect she's deeply dyslexic though.

I have seen some diapers as Fressnapf.
We use 'diapers' that you lay on the floor, which makes cleaning up easy. Made of same material as diapers, this just folds open to lay flat.
Our dogs learned pretty quickly to use that instead of the the carpet.

When our old lady Newf became incontinent (nights) we just folded a bathtowel around her private bits, sort of like a diaper. She didn't get up at night, so the pee just dribbled out into the towel which when straight into the washing machine first thing in the morning. We also gave her a thick bedding of large bathtowels which served the same purpose. In the morning I washed the relevant parts with warm water and a mild baby soap. She'd had a bladder infection as a puppy and we'd had her spayed, and the vet said that in old age there was not much we could do. Mind you, this was back in 1995, so check with your vet to see if there's any mild medication which could help.

I've been through my share of canine incontinence... I'm sorry to hear your and your doglet are going through this.
First, do talk to your vet. It might be caused by something so simple as a urinary tract or bladder infection which could be treated with ABs. Or you might find that a drug like Propalyn (Phenylpropanolamine) or similar will help. Is your dog on any other meds at the moment? One of my mine became incontinent short term as a side effect of a respiratory drug (smooth muscle relaxers tend to relax a all smooth muscles...); the incontinence stopped as soon as she was taken off the drug. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error, but many types of incontinence can be treated.
I tried the doggy diaper things, and they were useless for my guys. The dogs hated them, tried to tear them off, and were almost always successful.
To manage the incontinence with minimal fuss I used incontinence bed pad for humans. These are fairly large, about a meter square. You can get these at any medical supply store and at most Apotheke. I put a pad on the dog's bed, then covered it with a vet-bed fleece. Throw the pad away, toss the vet-bed in the wash. The vet-bed will help to keep your dog dry, the bed pad will absorb any urine, keeping the dog's bedding fairly dry.
If you are looking at a longer-term condition, I found it easiest to just piddle-proof the house. I took up the good carpets, and put down some old tacky rugs I didn't care about. I then put waterproof sheet things (I found mine at Manor) down wherever my dog was most likely to sleep. If there was an accident nothing could soak through the floors and I just had to toss the sheet in the wash. If your dog likes to get up on the furniture, do the same. You may want to invest in enzyme based laundry detergents and cleaners. I use Greenfields Pet Stain Remover (available at Fressnapf, but you may need to special order it) - it completely takes away any scent.
Do watch for urine scald on your dog's skin - it can happen fairly quickly, and can cause nasty infections. You'll want to check your dog carefully after an accident, sponging him off or bathing as necessary. If your dog is long-haired you may want to trim the fur back - long hair tends to trap urine, increasing the risk of scalding. At the first sight of irritation speak to your vet - there are a number of creams that can be used.
Try not to get frustrated - I know how much extra work incontinence creates, but remember that your dog can't help it. I just sort of got zen about the whole thing, got myself into a routine to best care for my guys once we reached this stage. It's just part of the payback for all those years of unconditional love your dog has given you.
All the best to you and your dog.

My poor old dog (16 year old male jack russell) is occasionally incontinent at night, which is unfortunate, since he sleeps in our bed. There is a great product that you can get called a "male dog wrap". I put it on him every night before bed, with a sanitary pad, and we are all happier and drier. Best of luck to you and your alte hunde.
