Must a snake be registered?

Oh dear. The land-lord telephoned me today, asking "have you really got a snake?!?" And then he wanted to know if Eric is registered!!!
Do any other reptile owners know what he's talking about?

Re: Must a snake be registered?

it should be registered with the landlord , that you have a reptile on the premises. I also understand that certain types of reptiles should be registed with the gemeinde .. I know yours is a harmless cornsnake, but they can scare some ppl

Re: Must a snake be registered?

Well he obviously scared the land-lords daughter, who ran away and told her dad.
I was hoping Momus would see this, hence putting it in his thread which led Eric into my arms.

Thanks jrspet, I've had a glance.... could be helpful for many things, 'what to do if your rat bursts' seems an interesting discussion.

Because I have not the required grey cells to work the teknollygies.
If you had bought one of the babes calenders for this year, you'd be looking at him and some sheila in a hat right now, and for the rest of the month of March.

Re: Must a snake be registered?

All snakes must have a "Schlangenvinette" stuck on their underbellies which covers you in case Eric bites a someone.
I believe you can get them for 5.- cheaper from Denner if you buy a whole heap crap you don't need.
Hey i'm a bit bored, got the day off.
Cheers

Cool, Corn snakes are really nice, our kids love the reptile house at Zh Zoo as they let you touch some of the snakes.

i-b-deb is asking if she should get Eric registered and how if yes. She's not looking to set Eric up with a date. (Why 'recent'? Could he have put on weight after that last mouse, you think?!)

Re: Must a snake be registered?

Back on topic: The schlangenforum.ch seems to be a pretty good source of info for "snakes in Switzerland". They discuss all types of rather exotic anymals and there is no mentioning of any registering laws at all. All types of snake-newby stuff was answered there... so I am sure the "How, Where and how much to register" would be part of it.

So: probably there is no registering neccessary, at least till the authorities find out how to attach a tag to the snake... collars failed as much as ear piercings.

Re: Must a snake be registered?

Well, actually I am. He hasn't eaten in 12 weeks despite living with 2 mice for the last month and a half, cos he's only got a brain the size of a lentil which has only enough room in it for one instinct at a time and at the moment he just wants a woman-snake.

My first post did not really add inofrmation but rather the much discussed "noise", so I tried to give some advice with my second post. Don't worry, will not happen again.

Awww, Eric's a nice snake -- he wouldn't eat his friends. Awwww. (I mean we don't eat our housemates or young wards named Hansel or Gretel, do we?)

As for snake dates going further, don't you think going '69' would be kinda easy fun for Eric and his future she-snake sweetheart?

I remembered you had posted some time ago about your snake.
Keeping pets (always in twos)

I think that if your snake is not subject to a permit, then you need not worry. But of course, as a courtesy, you probably should have told the landlord about him.

Last year there were 2 snakes found in a garbage bag in Baden.
http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/aar...gesetzt-104892
The owner of these two snakes would have needed a permit to keep them.

If you are really concerned, contact the veterinary office in the Kanton of Zürich. For sure it is best to get the information from them.

I looked on CITES. If your snake is a Pantherophis guttata, you should be fine. http://www.cites.org/eng/app/E-Jul01.pdf
Snakes are listed on page 25.
