OK guys, the latest pics of our little buddy! As requested, with the typical Staffie SMILE
Now that is one happy doglet!

The great thing about staffies is that their enthusiasm and good humor is so infectious. One look at that staffie smile and I feel better already.

Re: Calling all Staffie lovers!! (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) (Other dogs also welcom

I love Staffies!!!

But I worked as a vet in South London and can understand why they have recently gotten an unfairly bad name in the British press. At every other practice I have worked at staffies were lovely lively dogs with caring, hardworking owners who understood how important it was that these lively dogs were well stimulated and trained.
Working in this practice was a completely different experience. The dogs staffies and staffie crosses (nobody ever wanted to expand on what the cross was) began as the same lovely pups but many, not all, had very different owners and became very difficult dogs.
I was regularly asked advice on how to get the dogs to "muscle up" - could they use body builder shakes and supplements.... If the nurses fussed over the pups they were told not to as "it makes them soft".... These dogs were status symbols, they arrived with fancy studded leather harness, their owner would pay for muscle builders etc but complained at the cost of vaccines, normal foods etc... We didn't see the dog unless it was a crisis...

It makes me so happy when I see well trained staffies enjoying life and setting such a good example of what this lovely breed is about.

Sorry for the little rant I was speaking to one of my old colleagues yesterday....

I understand, its a real shame to see how perverse some people can be and allow their own insecurities to manifest on a dog (who just wants love and wants to please).

Unfortunately all dogs are susceptible to this type of treatment and the results are usually the same. Staffie's need a firm, but understanding hand, not a weak and selfish hand.

But on the training side, excercise is extremely important for Staffies, they are a working breed. But I don't believe a dog needs to go to gym to get that stimulation.

Quite amazed by what you told me in terms of muscling up, people continue to amaze me (Unfortunately not positively...).

I think these people should forget the macho dogs and the dog fighting and get in the ring themselves, then we see how tough they are.

I don't often get home sick for South Africa but this thread makes me want to go see our staffie - we moved here 8 years ago and left "Tokyo" with my in-laws, he's an old guy now but still gives us the special grin!!!!

We have 2 Jack Russels now but would have loved Staffies. We decided to change from Staffies as were didn't want to keep them attached and muzzled

Grumpy, that photo is SOOOOO cute!!!

Never had a dog myself but quite keen on reading all the posts and viewing pictures attached. Have friends from SA who moved two years ago with two Labs (Dalhila and Malokho) and I have been watching them growing up since their puppy's age. Very nice doggies which had to go thru quarantine period to be shipped over to CH.

Other boet has go Jackrussel similar to:

Guys, maybe you should organize a social event with dogs (hope they wont bite each other) Just the thought of it

Actually there is a Staffie march coming up quite soon (unfortunately only for staffie's)

But its a great idea to organise some sort of event, all breeds welcome! I'll be back!

Re: Calling all Staffie lovers!! (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) (Other dogs also welcom

Come to the Cham lake park 3.5km before Zug (if you come from Zurich), people and dogs! You can take the train to the Cham train station which is a minute's walk from the lake park. Humans can have a picnic, share some food, and dogs can sniff and romp.

There's a pebbly beach which I call the 'Giant Dog's Water Bowl' and from which dogs can paddle out to swim. (Provided the friendly plainclothes neighbourhood Polizei don't come around to tell us to put the dogs back on their leashes, hee hee.)
