Window screens (to keep cat in)??

Hi all,

I would like to get a cat but as I live on the ground floor near a fairly busy street, I'd really like to bring it up as an indoor cat. I'd like to find window screens so I can leave my windows open without worrying about the cat taking a walk across said busy street. Does anyone have any ideas as to how or where I can obtain normal, click-in window screens like those so common in North America?? They might also keep the fruit flies out....hmmmm

Thanks,

Erin

We have metal roller blinds on the outside, and we just keep those down every time a window is open. Fresh air comes in, but cats don't go out. Do you have similar?

You can get window screens at Coop Bau und Hobby. There's one in Oerlikon near the train station.

That said, I'd rather just not get a cat myself.

Unfortunately, I don't think those are strong enough to be cat-proof. We looked into them briefly when we got our cats and decided that keeping the rolling blinds down was a much safer option.

Normal click-in screens in standard sizes you can buy at a Bau and Hobby or Do It store. Otherwise the companies that do balcony awnings (Storen) normally do them made to measure. We used http://www.sutter-storen.ch/ who I'd recommend. Otherwise google Insektenschutz or Fliegengitter to find other places.

Re: Window screens (to keep cat in)??

In addition to the recommendation of others, I believe I saw a sale paper for this week for Aldi that screens are among the items on sale.

They do have a website if you care to check it out http://www.aldi.com/schweiz.html

Also though, I know my mother-in-law tends to pick up netting from pet stores to put across her window... as screens on windows don't seem to be the typical thing here she is (apparently) less bothered by the flying critters getting in than I. I mention this as it may turn out to be a viable option for you as well, the time she bought some when I was with her, the purchase was made at Qualipet, they have a few different weave options and it is cut to measure (similar to purchasing fabric for sewing).
