Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

I just moved to Zurich and having a hard time finding a pension home for my 10 year old boxer. Have a business trip to go on, and no one seems to like boxers. The minute i mention boxer, there voice changes. Any advise or good pension for a quiet 10 year old boxer for 5 days.

That's weird, boxers are beautiful, gentle dogs; maybe people are confusing boxers with pit bulls or something.

Anyway, this isn't helping you at all (except that you have my sympathy), and I don't know anything about dog kennels. But why not look in the Yellow Pages, or alternatively, advertise in Market Place here on EF for someone to look after your dog?

Good luck!

http://www.hundepension.com/

Located in the Winterthur area.

This isn't a recommendation, just information, as I don't know anything about this Tierheim at all. I came across the website some years ago on the way to looking for something else (as you do). The person who runs it is also a boxer breeder, so I imagine there wouldn't be trouble on that score.

Do check out the Tierheim thoroughly yourself, though - due diligence required, as always. Specifically, read their article 'Rudelhaltung', and see if that meshes with your needs.

Another option might be home care, which is what I use. The sitter moves into our home while we are away to care for the dogs. I think one of our sitter's other clients may be a boxer. Should you be interested, PM me for her contact details.

Oh, and 22 yards...

Re: Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

If you'll indulge an OT post for one sec -- yes, they are both beautiful (and I sincerely mean that). But sadly, the pit bull, "American staffie", etc has earned itself a nasty reputation, leading to its being banned in several countries. I've met some lovely, gentle pit bulls and some absolute monsters. Never met an obnoxious boxer, though.

It's all about the dog's reputation. Boxers generally get far more green blobbies than APBTs , but I suspect that in the OP's situation, there's a bit of confusion out there.

OT: But pitbulls can be nice dogs too. I once lived in a house where there happened to be a pitbull in residence. She had a great personality and was as playful as Papa Gooses Labs.

to be honest, almost every story featuring these breeds leads to an owner who is not diligent and frankly they are to blame. So some owners have led to those breeds having a "nasty reputation".

Remember - dogs have a mental age of around 3 years and are pack animals.

Not wanting to derail the thread any more than it has already been, it's almost like saying all black people are criminals, Italians are all Mafia and so on.

Back to the topic - there are kennels in the Zurich area....hopefully you find a kennel. Otherwise offer to reciprocate and see if someone will look after your puppy

Hi Stinger,

I don't know of any Kennels, but my husband and I have a 3-1/2 yr. old boxer. She is lovable, friendly and good with other dogs and children. If you want, we would be more than happy to have your boxer visit with us while you are away. If you are interested please PM me. :-)

If MC's suggestion does not pan out, try Leikas Hundeparadies in Rifferswil. Claudia is the owner and the place is nicer than some hotels I've stayed in!

You can get the number from the phonebook or PM me.

Re: Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

Hi All,

I know it's been a while since this thread was posted. But someone did take my offer to let us watch their Boxer while the family went to the U.S.

I just wanted to say it's been one of the best 3 weeks we've had in a long time! Even the neighbors enjoyed watching the two Boxers romp in the yard. We also had pics and videos for the family to view online while they were away. :-D

We are definitely going to miss the "big" little bugger when he returns home. Fortunately... the family lives close enough for us to hookup for morning walks. :-)

"No one will ever care for your dog as you do. But when you find someone that does... it's a godsend."

(We didn't charge them, however, they gave us Fr. 100 for expenses of which they'll receive most back.)

BOXERS, GOTTA LUV 'EM!

Re: Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

Hello,

This is a very old post, but I just wanted to post my message here in case

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the Zurich area from California, and we're both huge boxer lovers. I volunteered at a Boxer Rescue in California, and I was hoping we might find something similar here, not least because I just want to help, and also because down the road, we'd love to adopt a boxer.

As far as I can tell, there don't seem to be many rescue organizations here in Switzerland, which is great, because there's such a huge problem in the States, but I do feel a little strange thinking of going to a breeder to get a boxer, when I always thought I would adopt because there's so many that need good homes.

Not to mention, this is one of the only Boxer posts on English forum - hence my posting here

Does anyone know of any rescue organizations in the Zurich area where people can volunteer to help out? I know there's the Tierschutz, but a) their website has been down for months, and b) I get the impression that in Switzerland people don't let you take care of anything, or work anywhere, without formal training, which I of course don't have.

So, I just wanted to send a message out to fellow dog/boxer lovers And, if anyone in the Zurich area ever needs their boxer dogsat for again, here's another home that would love to help

You can find addresses for the refuges here:

And I'm sure many would appreciate your help.

Re: Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

If you are looking to give a boxer a home:

The Swiss Boxer club (the breed club in the SKG) lists boxers in need of new homes - it appears that currently none are listed, but you could always contact the club to register your interest. Also contact the regional groups, as one of the members might know of a boxer in need.

It’s true that there are not many breed-specific rescues in Switzerland - however there are many in Germany. If you can’t find a boxer in need here in Switzerland, check out some of the breed rescues over the border.

A quick google brings up the following sites: please note that I am not familiar with these sites/groups myself, so due diligence, and all that.

http://www.boxer-in-not.de
http://www.boxernothilfe.de
http://www.boxer-im-tierheim.de
http://www.boxer-und-freunde.de
http://www.boxerhilfe.de

I did a quick browse through the database linked by Medea, but didn’t see any boxers at the moment - but do keep an eye on it as you never know when one might turn up.

ETA:

Browsing through those sites, I noticed that a few of them are looking for foster homes for their boxers. Perhaps that is a something you might consider?

Re: Kennels in Zurich for Boxer

Hello dbmouse!

My husband and I just moved to Zurich, and we love boxers too! We brought over our boxer girl who is about 5 and 1/2 yrs old (see photos). We rescued her when she was 1. We are from Texas and volunteered and fostered other boxers with Austin Boxer Rescue; we really miss this rescue group and the friends we've made through it and hope to find other boxer lovers here too

We also did pet therapy with her at nursing homes and hospitals (through Pet Partners)...We haven't done too much researching into rescue groups or pet therapy, but it seems as though it is very limited. (maybe we should have moved to Germany seeing all those other post links heh).

Anyway, this is my first post, but maybe we can PM each other if we can figure that out Spent the last week trying to setup other basics of moving like phone and banks, but I'm sure I'll be more active as I get settled.

We plan on taking her most every where since it is way more dog friendly here, but you never know when we may need a dog sitter - we may take up your offer!

Thanks!

p.s. I checked Meetup.com and they didn't seem to have many dog meet up groups either...
