Where to find a kitten?

Hi. I'm new in Switzerland and desperately sad about leaving my beloved cat behind in South Africa - it would've been too traumatic submitting him to all the immigration regulations.

Now I am looking for a kitten again. It doesn't have to be any specific breed, it matters more by whom he/she has been raised so far.

Any tips? Perhaps anyone knows about animal shelters? I need to know where to begin to look.

...and so by the time you leave Switzerland again, you would leave this cat behind as well or you don't plan to return at all?

Re: Where to find a kitten?

It's much easier moving a cat around Europe than from back there to here. And I had somebody yearning for an animal. Please don't make assumptions.

Re: Where to find a kitten?

You could always make one.

Step 1: Take two consenting, adult cats, of opposite genders...

Yeah, a shelter should be able to help you out. They are called Tierheim in German (in case you're not familiar with German already) and you can easily google them...good luck in finding a kitty.

Re: Where to find a kitten?

Thanks everyone, I'll follow up on that. I happened to run into a type of animal society today, by pure chance, and they gave me a whole list for the different kantons:

Aargau: www.tierschutz-aargau.ch
Appenzell Ausserrhoden: www.appenzeller-tierschutz.ch
Baselstadt/Baselland: www.tbb.ch and www.tierschutzbund.ch

Bern: www.bernertierschutz.ch, www.tierschutzkantonbern.ch, www.tierschutz-biel-seeland.ch; and www.tierschutz-emmental.ch

I haven't checked any of the links out, but will let you know about the progress!

Re: Where to find a kitten?

Hi Erma!
I know a young couple who has a beautiful and adorable persian cat called Oscar. They would like to find him a new home because they have both started to work very long hours.
I looked few times after him when they were away,so i know he is an absolutely lovely cat(they brought him in my house to be looked after as i couldn't travel to their house).
I wanted him for myself but they gave me the news a week too late(now i have my own kitty which i got her from this forum as well):-)
Let me know if you are interested and i could give you their phone number.

Kind regards,
Anna Maria

Re: Where to find a kitten?

When I lived in a more rural area here there were always notices on the bulletin board in the supermarket giving away free kittens. That's where I got mine . Haven't really looked now that I'm in a fairly urban location but I'm sure cats get it on in cities too.
