Hi all, I`ve been in zurich for 4 weeks and brought my cat. She needs her teeth checked but I`m not sure about the procedure for going to a vets and what the costs for treatment are like etc...

you phone up the vet of your choice ( if you can, ask friends for recommendations) , set an appointment and get the cat treated. Vets ask for the bill being settled in cash or some with credit card up to a certain amount ( mine's limit is 500.- up of that you can get a bill/paying in slip payable within 30 days)

One of my cats had gingivitis and needed a couple of back teeth removed. This and a cleaning of teeth cost me 500.- as it had to be done under anesthetic.

My vet is a specialist animal dentist.

hi, my old cat in the UK, had the calc/plaque removed twice by vets.
The first one did blood and kidney tests, then gave her a full anesthetic, did the teeth. also she stayed in overnight. Cost quite a bit. The cat had a nice smile afterwards though!

A few years later, her gums looked a little sore so I took her to a different vet. This vet said she needs her teeth needed the clean again, but this vet wrapped the car in a blanket there and then, I held her tight while the vet picked off the calc with her thumb nails and pliers! OK, the cat didn't like it, but the job was done. The vet said she the whole aneasthetic thing was overkill, especially with older cats, unless the cat needed a tooth to be removed.

Cheers for the replies everyone, the cat is now booked into a local vet. The vet said it should be around 150chf.
