Hello. Recently moved near Nyon in the unfortunately named Canton of VD. My wife is a vet and on first name terms with the Easyjet cabin crew who she spends a jolly 3 hours with - if she's lucky - every week (why is the Stansted flight always more delayed than the Luton one ...?). I'm also starting to travel too much with my job. Which is fine except that we have 2 Jack Russells (and 2 hairy cats). Had a dog sitter lined up in Nyon and sent the darlings over for a trial. Which they failed. Dog 2 decided to dig his way under her fence, swiftly followed by Dog 1 (gee this is fun), and chase the next door cats, one of whom is pensionable and moving with the aid of a zimmer frame. The neighbours were not amused. (Dog 2 thought it hilarious.) So does anyone out there in Nyonland know of somebody with a small dog proof garden happy to take our muts for the odd night or two? We will pay. And they are very sweet really. Unless you're a cat.

You're the second message I've received, the first being one to tell me I'd been filed in Junk - a trifle off given I'd only just joined... But hey, got to learn the etiquette. Like for example one of the few locals to visit us so far has been a toad the size of a satellite dish. My wife got down to introduce herself and it promptly, well, did a Number 1 all over the garage floor. Is this a typical local greeting? And the VD thing is even more embarrassing if you want to take your car back to the UK. Which I did recently. Why don't the Swiss don't do personal number plates? Enjoy your afternoon.

Re: dog sitting: You can take a peek at the "other" English forum (GenevaOnline). Recently there was a discussion about setting up a list of people who could dog sit for each other. Another thing to try is to look if there are any JR breeders in the area. The breeder I got my dog from takes in other dogs of the same breed sometimes.

I usually take my dog with me, which is why I don't know any of the EasyJet crew! They don't allow dogs in the cabin. Actually I don't think they allow dogs at all.

Never seen a toad in Switzerland.... near us there are lots of slugs and snails.

The license plate thing: I just don't ask questions about that any more!

I can recommend Dan Sperrin for dog-walking and/or dog-sitting, he is 33 and English with dog experience his entire life, living in Lausanne.

The dogs he takes over holidays or weekends are walked 3 times a day, with at least one 2 hour walk and the others between 30min - 1h (unless your dog needs more or less exercise of course). He includes playtime and varies the walk locations, basic obedience training and tips are also possible.

Your dog would be kept in a family of two persons with 3 other dogs (2 females and one very gentle male). S/he would have his own sleeping space wherever s/he prefers within 3 rooms, can stay in the bedroom at night if it's a dog that needs company for comfort, plus grooming and feeding/medication depending on your instructions of course.

Fee is 30,- CHF a day plus bring your own food for dog-sitting, dog-walking fees depend on what you need per day. Dan has taken excellent care of my dogs as well as my sister's and additional references are available on request. Over the past 6 months I've also gone on dog-walks with him nearly every day so I've seen how he treats them, he's gentle but firm and very responsible.

I am new to Switzerland and I regret that I can't help with a recommendation in Nyon. However, if anyone knows a dog walker or sitter in Geneva, I would appreciate any suggestions, too

This is an old thread, but a new, ongoing, need for an occassional dog sitter for our two friendly, but energetic, furry family members; One 'Labradoodle' and one chatty Welsh Corghi. Payment or some sort of reciprocal arrangement would be cool too.

Need help... looking for somone to look after my gorgeous dog whilst i am away from the 31st of August to the 6th of September... I am in Lausanne but am willing to travel up to an hr from Lausanne.

Our dog is a 10 year old Lab, she spends most of her days inside but loves to go walking at anytime.
