Black cat in a cauldron?

As Halloween approaches we have been advised by my partner's work colleagues to keep our black cat indoors, as it could be a possible target for jokes and nasty tricks. We let our cats out daily but will keep them in for the next few evenings to heed the advice (our other cat is black too, with small patches of white).

Is it true that people harbour so much suspicion towards black cats, in this country? I haven't yet heard our neighbours call me a witch because of it! Hee, hee, hee....cackle, cackle.......
Inicidentally, I have noticed that of all the cats in our village, ours are the only black ones!

Do they have wheelie bins here?

Re: Black cat in a cauldron?

Yes. I was told that a black cat was put into one and the bin lid weighted down to stop it from escaping. It died....!

No. It's just a Halloween thing. But even that is not even very common. I'd also keep the kitty in the house as your neighbors seem to have their sites on him.

Hi Phoenix,

Why on earth would people bother a black cat over halloween, is this in Switzerland only? is there anything known in Switzerland of what happened to black cat's? the last people i would suspect doing something to a cat are Swiss ones now..
Hope your kitty is potty trained as stressful days are ahead

and regarding the cat in Uk that was put in a wheelie bin, she lives to see another day, thankfully the poor thing didn't die.

LONDON (Aug. 25) -- The British woman who became a hate figure for animal lovers everywhere after she was caught tossing a cat into a trash bin today apologized for her anti-feline offense, only hours after telling tabloidThe Sun, "I don't know what the fuss is about, it's just a cat."
Mary Bale, a 45-year-old bank worker from the central English city of Coventry, said in a statement, "I want to take this opportunity to apologize profusely for the upset and distress that my actions have caused. It was a split second of misjudgment that has got completely out of control."
Earlier in the day, though, Bale had told The Sun she didn't understand why Brits -- known as a nation of animal lovers -- couldn't just fur-get about the incident.
"OK, I shouldn't have done it -- but it's just a cat at the end of the day. I don't think I deserve to be hated by people all over the world, it was just a split second of madness," she said. "I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly thought it would be funny to put it in the wheelie bin, which was right beside me."
Footage of the incident captured by a security camera on Aug. 21 shows that Bale knew purr-fectly well that she wasn't behaving like a model citizen. She's seen stroking a four-year-old tabby cat called Lola and glancing furtively from side to side. When it's clear that no one is watching, Bale grabs the poor puss by the scruff of its neck, tosses it in the trash bin and slams the lid. The cat's owners, Stephanie and Darryl Mann, found the distraught and hungry Lola some 15 hours later.

Lola, meanwhile, has recovered from her trauma and is now enjoying the stack of gifts ferried to her by concerned felinophiles.

Its also known the cat got revenge :

Sorry, i was on the Uk cat in bin story also bad thing btw..shouldn't be done !

So they trapped a poor cat and let it die? f-f sake, what's wrong with these people.

Keep kitty in the house for the next days anyway,as there are some mad lunatic and sick people running around on this world apparently.

Not to worry. This is not a wide spread Swiss thing. People do this kind of stupid crap all over the world. But again, just to be safe from your crazy neighbors, keep the cat in the house.
