My husband commutes to Zurich every day and the drive is approx. 50min- 1 hour depending on traffic all the way in to Alltstetten, just for comparison if you are thinking about moving here but working in Zurich.
There are shops in the villages below ours about 10 minutes away, as well as jumbo, coop, migros, banks etc... there is the possibility to do hiking just behind our house, cross country skiiing in the winter, paragliding all year round from just up the hill, etc...it is an incredible area to live. The valley below has tons of walking and biking and rollerblading roads all over the place and it is excellent all year round for outdoor sports and stuff like that.
There is a school bus that comes up the hill for all the kids incl. kindergarten kids, school kids etc. There is a kindergarten in the village below, a playgroup there as well, also a Montessori school just down the hill. It is a kid friendly village with many other kids to play with around.
