This is probably not what you want to hear, but you would probably be better off taking the car back to the UK to sell. I am in the same situation, I have an Irish registered car here but I know there is no way that I will get anywhere near the value of the car if I sell it here so I will bring it home in February to sell it.

Also as far as the legality of the car, it is legal for you to drive it here until November but not anyone else. I looked quite alot into this when I brought my car over. I found out that it even gets to the point where in Switzerland I can drive my car, and another driver with an Irish license can drive my car... ...but my Swiss girlfriend can't even though she is insured by name in the car. The law states that if you bring a car into the country you are not allowed to lend it until it has been imported and has Swiss plates.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've had a foreign registered car here now for longer then I should, and because of the worry of getting into trouble I just don't drive it anymore. I have it parked off the street and will take it back to Ireland as soon as possible to sell it.

My advice... use it here until the end of next summer and then take it back to the UK to sell it.

I wonder just what "Serviced religiously" includes - Holy water in the windscreen washers? Engine anointed with oil?

You should have had the RHD steering converted...

All it means is that having seen the results of bad oil at a garage once, I am fanatical about keeping the oil fresh.

I might not be able to lend it out but transferring ownership should be easy and getting insurance is possible too...anyway, thanks for pointing this out, I'll have to look into it in more detail. For now, then, it is perfect for someone going back to the UK soon ;-)

I could convert it to Swiss plates - just need to change the rear light cluster. They don't mind the steering wheel being in the wrong place but they object to the reverse-gear-light being on the wrong side!!!
