I want to buy a 32" LCD TV around 1200CHF in Zurich but damn confused with lots of available models. Any guide on how to select or what to look to buy LCD TV? Appreciate any suggestions.

Do I need to look only in this big shops? Can I buy from online dealers? Would I get guarantee with these dealers?

I recently bought a Phillips 32" HD ready LCD TV from Interdiscount for 1050chf I think and have been really pleased with it. I also saw the same model in Tesco in the UK for £699

If you are not too bothered about brand name, try InterDiscount for a Microspot. Bought one in November for 700 chf & am very happy with it.

Can you give me the model number of the Philips TV you bought?

Found this Sony KDL-32S3000 for 1134 on the below site and the same is for 1499CHF in interdiscount.

I've shortlisted following 2:

1. Sony KDL-40U2000 (40" HD Ready) - Interdiscount (CHF 1499.-), Media Markt (CHF 1444.-)

2. LG 42LC42 (42" HD Ready) - Digitec (CHF 1395.-)

Both look good in size, features and value for money.

Thought i'd chime in here since I spend weeks and weeks of my time looking at tens of TVs over the last few months, and recently purchased one.

to sum it up short (all prices from toppreise)
If you want a 32" TV, look at the Panasonic TX-32LMD (1116CHF), LCD
If you want a 37" TV, look at the Panasonic TH-37PV70F (1380CHF), Plasma
If you want a 42" TV, look at the Panasonic TH-42PX70 (1493CHF), plasma

It is just coincidence these all turn out to be panasonic. A couple of toshibas were in the running for the 32" category but were too highly priced. None of these are 1080p b/c i just don't think the price is worth it when you consider how much more you have to pay to actually get a 1080p source you can watch (i.e. cost of a HD-DVD/BluRay player plus the extra cost of HD-DVDs etc). As a rule, stay away from anything by philips (at least TV-wise) as they have terrible black levels.

While I am gaining good knowledge on the TV models, I would also like to understand the issues buying online compared to buying directly from the shops like interdiscount and mediamarket. Will there be any disadvantages buying online like less guarantee or issues with shipping or any?????

that's a good question and i'm keen to see the answer too. I lucked out: I first settled on the exact model I wanted (Panny TH-37PV70F), found the price on toppreise, then kept my eye out on sales in stores... luckily mediamarkt had an offer that brought the price of the TV to within 50CHF of the online price. My threshold was 100CHF... to me it's worth 100CHF to know i have a real store to take it back to. Online places someitmes seem to have real storefronts here too... netto24 or whatever it was had one... and the people in there seemed friendly.
