I have no connection to the buyer but as I work in the DVD business...

Coding are the regional controls used by Movie/Production Studios. Code 1 DVDs are from the USA and they will be in the NTSC format. So, not only will you need a code free DVD player to play them you will need a DVD player capable of playing the NTSC signal and a TV capable of broadcasting the NTSC signal. MOST newer DVD players and TVs sold today have this capability for NTSC, but not the ability to play Code 1 DVDs. However, many DVD players can be made Code Free by their remote controls.

If you're not sure if you'll be able to play Code 1 DVDs then I wouldn't buy them. But, if you regularly buy DVDs from the States and play them without problem, then there is no problem.

The seller didn't identify if the DVDs fromn China have Chinese Regional coding (Region 6). You don't need to worry about NTSC there, but you do with the coding. However, most DVDs from China are Region Free.

If you have time... Wikipedia reference-linkDVD_region_code

Re: DVDs for sale

For what it's worth, we bought a 50-euro DVD player two weeks ago in Germany, some no-name "Elta"(sp?) brand.

It has no trouble playing region-4 (Australia) or region-1 (North America) DVDs - although it makes no mention of being region-free on the box. Maybe it will lock after a number of plays, but for 50-euro I'll take the chance.

I think if you have a more band-name player (especially Sony) then you might have worries about DVD region coding.

cheers,
(Mr)Wibble

Genrally the cheaper and more nameless the DVD player is, the more they are capable of. Region free, Divx capable, input from USB, SD cards etc.....

We had a dual region DVD player that we bought for CHF 60 and MediaMarkt. Worked brilliantly.

Great, so since I paid less than 50-, it should work! Therefore, OP, how much extra do you want to get them to me in ZH?

It is often very easy to get a "crack" off the internet to make these players region-free, although you sometimes have to be careful so as not to remove the functionality of the player....

What's the difference between a "crack" and a crack?

Sutter, don't listen to the man.
