| | | Wanted: Reliable car!
Hi
Moving to Zurich for 3 months but don't want to have the hassle of buying or selling a car so if anyone has a car they are willing to let out for 3 months for a fair deal offically or unofficially then please let me know.
- 28 year old professional
- Clean driving license
Note: the car need to be roadworthy and legal and I will pay for the insurance.
Thanks

If you take a look here, you will see there is a situation that could arise when using a car.
Your best bet, for insurances, security, road worthiness and sake of a sound mind... is to rent a car from a well known rental car company.
Of course the down side is the cost. If you are on your last dime, or your employer is not willing to foot the bill, then plan to get the most out of the public transportation system... which is very good (despite some of the comments that may arise ).
Personally, there is no way that I would give over the keys to any automobile or motorcycle to anyone (outside of my immediate family or in case of emergency)... It is my name on those tags and I am responsible for them.
On top of that, you don't give any dates. Who knows what kind of professional occupation you have
Good luck!

| | | | | Yes but then limits what time you travel depending on destination and takes up much more time of traveling outside the city or want to just go for a long drive on a a sunny day! | Quote: | | | | | Personally, there is no way that I would give over the keys to any automobile or motorcycle to anyone (outside of my immediate family or in case of emergency)... | | | | | Was thinking of an old car eg a mk2 golf or one of those japanese which never die! ie something someone may have lying around not worth a lot but works. | Quote: | | | | | On top of that, you don't give any dates. Who knows what kind of professional occupation you have
Good luck! | | | | | 2nd June - 31st august. My CV is mainly big name blue chip, graduate, MS Certified and working for a major Hedge Fund Group out here.
Accept this may seem a strange thing to post but nothing like going for a long drive in good weather and some place you just cant easily get to by public transpoer- especially when i dont yet speak German so thought would give it a try- he who dares wins and all that. |

Please don't take this personal Ashtraxx...
It is people like this that I dealt with for a number of years. During my time in the US military in Germany, there were numerous newbies in country that came with their pre-determined blinders. Basically, they were already against being in Europe, against learning a little German to get by, against the culture and many sights to see.
I once took a new soldier and his wife out to lunch... then I disappeared. Their ignorance ****ed me off, they were not willing to leave the umbrella of the US military (base, housing, commissary, etc). They found their way back to their housing and later (after a massive cooling off period) thanked me for doing that. They had to find their own way back to the military housing, which was only a few Kilometers!
What I am getting to, Ashtraxx, is that it reads like you are predetermined not to learn some of the language, not to use the public transportation and to make life as easy as possible for yourself. OK, the third point is only human
Get out and learn some of the language. Use the public mobility and you will see that it does get you just about everywhere you will want to go on your three month working-vacation! Besides, there are plenty of Joes and Janes out here that will pick you up on the way to an English Forum Event... or drag you along on the tram/bus/train
Enough sputtering... Again, good luck!

The public transport is bloody brilliant here: Unlike when you have to drive a car, all alert and sober-like, here you can sit in the buffet car, get slowly stewed on beer, and watch the mountains go by without having to worry about traffic jams, other drivers or speed cameras.
It's lovely!
And there are night trains serving Pfaffikon, too, so you needn't worry about getting home after a pleasant evening in the bars and nightclubs of the city.
Moreover, should you decide to actually live in the city, you'll never, ever find yourself without transport - clean, efficient, safe, and running pretty much all the time.
Sod the car, get drunk in the train and be happy!
It works for me!

Mate, car insurance etc doesn't work over here the way it does in the uk.. So, simply put, if you're only here for a couple of months, you're best off hiring a car from a reputable company for the few times you want to take your drive...
Trains here are often quicker than car, plus more relaxing... Also you can't compare public transport over here to the UK...
In short, I doubt you'll find anyone to do so...

Guys and gals- relax. Its a speculative post which may or my not work out.
Scott - whilst not taking it personally have to reply as you have very much jumped to conclusions and made assumptions.
Quote: "It is people like this that I dealt with for a number of years." "they were already against being in Europe, against learning a little German to get by, against the culture and many sights to see"
Reply- I backpacked across the states (NY to San fran) for 3 months, have interailed round Europe and CHOSEN to come to Zurich. I have secondary school German (was a natural learner & best in school) and whilst in Munich and Frankfurt years ago was fine but now very rusty- over for 3 months and then thats probably it so not financialy viable to learn officially as quite fancy working in China next.
Quote: "not to use the public transportation and to make life as easy as possible for yourself."
Again see above for backpacking- have used the Greyhound's in the usa so trust me I'm not lazy . I LOVE driving and see driving broad as an experience in itself |

Then you have one thing going for you... and as Lynn and Dougal have stated... your only options are rental and public.
Enjoy your trip |

Lynn's idea is not bad. The first question that comes to mind, must the driver have a permanent Swiss address or residency permit?
Either way, just think... if you drive yourself then you may have this:
... or this:
... or this:
... or this:
... or, lastly, this:
FYI, we have had snow up into late May and as early as the end of August!

Boy, anyone would think you're anti cars Scott... and yet I seem to recall having a chat about some fancy new car you were test driving
I did not check all info on mobility this is true.. However, I figured the OP might consider it as an option. After all I doubt anyone will lend him their car. But hey maybe I'm too cynical.

I am not anti-car... just anti-*stau!
*Stau=Traffic Jam/chaos/cluster/joke
Oh yes, the new car is on the way, delivery date October 9th.
The Mobility is surely a price worthy consideration, if all the requirements are met. Maybe someone from the forum has already utilized Mobility and can share their experiences with us.
