Have just moved to Basel and am looking for some furniture for my apt.
If someone is wanting to sell or can direct me to where I can get something second hand/ not too expensive.

I've adjusted your title to reflect that you want some household items for rock bottom prices. Be aware that you might not find these items but could look at other sources like www.ricardo.ch for them.

There seems to have been a swarm of requests for cheap/free items recently on the forum. Here's my advice...

Switzerland is one of the most expensive places to live on the planet which you should know before moving here, so cheap/free does not exist.

Use google/ricardo/e-bay/etc, etc.

Walk/cycle around the KleinBasel portion of Basel, there are a lot of cheaper shops and 2nd hand shops.

Also search on this forum in the for sale/wanted thread if it's not there no one is selling.

Shop in Lorrach, Germany just across the border it will be cheaper but some items you will have to pay tax on. (Check under a search in English Forum)

If you get really desperate cycle round Basel until you find items on the street labelled "gratis" this means free and you can take them away for nothing.

Otherwise www.ikea.com

I think I'm going to write a standard reply to these requests..I might even put it in it's own thread so people can refer to it..

In Switzerland, everybody has money and it's rare that anybody is prepared to buy used stuff. Even people on the dole get money to buy from Ikea.

Hence, whenever people try sell, usually it's a struggle. Even giving away free is a struggle. Just try giving furniture to a Brockenstube or Salvation Army. Unless it's 100% perfect, you have to pay them to take it away!

So with a bit of patience and time spent scouring these pages, anyone should, within reason, find what they are looking for.
