| | | Books wanted
I'm looking for books before I attack Amazon with a vengeance. I am looking for something specific and if anyone has these books, and they'd like to offload them, I'm buying. Author\s:
Graham Hancock and\or Robert Bauval Titles:
Keeper of Genesis: A Quest for the Hidden Legacy of Mankind
Fingerprints of the Gods: The Quest Continues
The Sign and the Seal: Quest for the lost Ark of the Covenant
Alternatively, if anyone knows any good second hand book shops, or if I have to, new book shops with a good English selection, please let me know.
Thanks.

Hi Gooner,
Sorry I don't have your books, but just wanted to make an observation about amazon. A few months ago I was in the US and thought I might take the chance to buy some books. The books I was looking for were quite heavy and also quite expensive ($30-$50). I realised that instead of buying them in the store in the US it would actually be cheaper (including shipping!) and more convenient to order from amazon and have them shipped to CH by priority courier (2 - 4 days). The last lot of books arrived in 2 days - faster than you could order it in CH even if they were in stock! Books in CH tend to retail well above the US retail price (just as books in the UK retail well above the US retail price!) so with this in mind, combined with the usual 30% discount that amazon gives it's hard to get them anywhere else :-)
Often I also see if I can download the books as PDF or audio books on the net (emule or bittorrent), if the book looks good then I go and order it on amazon. I found 2 of the 3 titles you were looking for and queued them for downloading, if you want them, give me a shout.

Hi Mark,
I've found them all on amazon, and more, 8 titles for 20 quid. I am not online at home, not until I get my new apartment on 1 April. I would appreciate any downloads you've got, I have a few FTP sites that they could go to, but I don't want to use up your time, unless of course you insist that it's OK.
Thanks.

also if you get the ISBN and plug it into amazon.de, you might benefit from decent price and free delivery...
certainly better value that books.ch most of the time...!

With priority international shipping the books are often still cheaper and will get from the states to CH faster than via .de or .uk....
But it might have changed - it always pays to shop around..

I bought all the titles I wanted 'used or new' - all shipped from within the UK. I got 8 books for 40 quid including postage, which is very good really in that I'll get my 40 quids worth of entertainment for sure.

When you buy them used, doesn't each book come from a separate seller, thereby increasing postage / customs handling?

Yes, the books actually cost me 22 quid and the postage cost me 20 quid, this worked out significantly cheaper than buying new books.

Another site which has now branched into books is play.com not such a good selection as Amazon but at least it offers free shipping , can make quite a difference to the overall price of books.
I have used them for many years for DVD's and games and have always found them to be quick and efficient.

I second play.com. Plus they haven't got stupid patents like Amazon (not that I know of - so feel free to set me straight
But what I most often use is ebay.co.uk for second-hand book. I mostly only use amazon if the book is heavy so then I get the standard marketplace postage rate. I find that most sellers on ebay will ship to Switzerland even if they don't list it. And if you're willing to wait, surface post makes it even more worthwhile - esp, if you're like me and end up with long lists of books the moment I start "shopping". |

Hiya,
I buy dvds or books from play.com pretty often. I've never had to pay postage. I have an account and have just double-checked postage for a book to switzerland and it's still free.
But you can always just send them an email to confirm their policy.

If you go to play.com homepage and click on helpdesk at the top right, then click on delivery policy it lists the countries they ship to , Switzerland is there.
