I am a newbie skier and looking forward to the upcoming ski season. I had a look at the prices for renting ski gear and am thinking perhaps it may work out more cost efficient to buy 2nd hand ski gear if anybody is looking to sell.

I am not looking for anything fancy (i dont really know the difference to be honest). Just something for me to hit the slopes with.

Alternatively, if anybody can recommend a good place (cheap) where I can rent ski gear that would also be very useful.

Definitely buy. If you have to buy skis ok, but you must know in your heart of hearts boarding is where it is at..

Unless you get an ABSOLUTE GIFT second hand you are better off avoiding it. You just can't know how many services the gear has gone through. You should be able to get an Auslauf (last season) set of skis quite cheaply at Ochsner. You could try the Pfäffikon branch. I think they have some offers out.
