Two motorbikes for sale [IMPORTS]

Hello All

I have a question that may have been aksed/answered previously but I am not able to find reference to it by searching.

I imported two motorcycles when I arrived here last year and now want to sell them as I have purchased new ones for me and my wife. I owned them for a few years before entering Switzerland so I did not have to pay duty on them when I arrived. How long to I have to keep them before selling if I do not want to pay duties. I was told 1 year. And when I do sell them after that, will I be liable for any other taxes, i.e. VAT or any other??

p.s. For any bikers amongst you who are interested, I have just purchased the BMW R1200GS Adventurer for myself and the BMW F650GS for my wife.

P.P.S I now have for sale 1 X R1100GS and 1 X F650 funduro with all luggage and plenty accesories for both. Both in good condition. The F650 gets handed in on the 07/04/2007 as a trade in for the F650GS.

Thanks in Advance

Richard

Re: Two motorbikes for sale [IMPORTS]

I too have properly imported 2 motorbikes a Ducati ST3 from Singapore and an Enfield Bullet 500 Machismo from India. We relocated in Nov 09 and the bikes were finally registered in ZH in May and June.

As the original question in this thread was not answered I ask it again. Are there any restrictions in terms of time or additional costs as to if or when I am allowed to sell one or both of these bikes?

Re: Two motorbikes for sale [IMPORTS]

@John.. Just out of interest, how did you import/buy the Royal Enfield ? I heard there are many specialised companies based in Delhi who export them, how did it work for you ? Were you in India to purchase it or did you just order it online ?

I would love to buy it off you, but am leaving to China in a month! I'll be looking for one when I come back in 1 year though...

I've just returned to CH and was looking at importing my bike. Although I finally decided to sell the bike and buy another one here, I read that you have to keep it for one year from date of import to avoid paying the GST. Apparently, renting or loaning your vehicle during that period could also being you the attention of the custom office.

The road traffic office (Service des automobiles / Strassenverkersamt) should be able to confirm.

Here is a site with some unofficial information (unfortunately, I couldn't find any official documentation):
