22.09.2007 15:00 to 18:00
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zurich airport
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Airport (see pictures in first post)

Who: Anyone with rollerblades, any ability level (don't be shy, we'll split the groups if there is a problem)
When: 15:00. If you'd like to get in some practice you can come earlier and skate around the car park. I'll be there from 14:30 to give any pointers (disclaimer: I'm not a rollerblading teacher, nor am I an expert!)
Where: Between the passenger terminal and the executive jet terminal there is a huge car park. See attached pictures for details.

This event is being held a little later on a Saturday afternoon so you can't use your "I have to do my shopping" excuse. Remember that the big shops in Dietlikon are open until 20:00 on Saturday evening, so you can even do your supermarket shopping afterwards (or shop at the airport)

Note: this is a weather-dependant event. Please check into this thread on the Saturday morning for any status updates!

The proposed route is flat, wide and quite scenic. The goal to to skate to some Roman ruins in Bülach, and back again. See attached pictures for the proposed route.

How to get there (car) - If driving northbound, skip the exit you'd normally take for the airport, and go one futher. You'll loop under the freeway and pretty soon you'll see some buildings and a massive car park. See attachment for a diagram of what I'm talking about
How to get there (public transport) - Well I'm not an expert on this one, but I would guess take a train to the airport, go outside and start heading north (turn left if the terminal is behind you as you walk out, or right if it is in front of you). Follow the road in basically a straight line and you should see a big operations center building on your left. Keep going and you'll soon find yourself in a massive car park. At the far end of this car park is the meeting point.

How will you find me? Big tall bloke wearing and orange cap and blue sunglasses (if sunny).

I'd like to turn this into a regular event, and preferably have someone else run the organising. We could go to different places and encourage skaters of all levels of ability to come along.

So please show your support, use the RSVP function if you are coming and even if you have some skill teaching skating why not come a little early to give tips to those that are practising before the start time.

Please see the attached files in the next message for all the details...
RSVP'd Yes: 4 (4 members and No guests)
  • mark - Come on bladers... Don't be shy!
  • dreamz - Hadn't seen this before. Are you guys still going?
  • Lynn - I'll be there...
  • thoean - Finally we are not alone!
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Rollerblading

Pictures of how to get there and where we will be going are attached.

The last event was cancelled because nobody signed up (I gave 4 days' notice). I'm not giving just under one month notice, so hopefully we can get a better result this time.

Re: Rollerblading

Well after no takers for my previous event I advertised this one 3 weeks in advance, but the response hasn't exactly been overwhelming. Why not? Great weather, nice route, I've provided (I think) excellent information. If I may say so myself this is not a poorly organised event, so where are all the bladers?

In any case, this event is going ahead. It's not too late to sign up. I'll see you there as planned. I'll be wearing an orange cap. My mobile number is 079 334 5358 if anyone gets lost.

This is my second attempt at a rollerblading event. Unless there is more support shown for this type of event, I won't be organising any more. Hope you all understand.

(I'm told Lausanne is the rollerblading capital of the world)

this is on my "to do" list (to learn rollerblading)

I'm not sure if its the capital but there are a lot of people who rollerblade here. I rollerblade quite regularly and we have just started to get a group together through another networking site (glocals.com). Hope I'm not in trouble for mentioning these guys.
Will post something on here when it is something more than a random event and anyone can come and join me at any time.

Cheers

Kathy

Rollerblading in Lausanne - you should do it !

Hello,
I have seen some posts here about people trying, not very successfully, to get some people together for some skating around.

Well, before I start building jumping ramps or challenging the local roller hockey teem, I would like to see if there is any body interested in casual rollerblading. I was wondering if there is anybody interested in learning/teaching or simply doing some skating around Lausanne. I am kind of new so I don't really know of any active or inactive group doing so.

I would like to propose to meet somewhere near the lake (in Lausanne) sometime in the future. It doesn't matter how bad you are at skating, probably you will find somebody who is worst at it.. just come along, I or somebody else will teach you how to skate form light-pole to light-pole successfully. As proven by all the skaters in Lausanne, rollerblading is actually pretty easy.

Please let me know who would be interested in meeting up. And please don't take it very seriously, ultimately the aim of it is just spend some time together and laugh at the worst skater or that day !

ciao
fabrizio
PS if anybody knows of any skating group, please let me know.
